Hi All,

We're just about ready for your arrival!

VERY IMPORTANT!!

BUSSES: There is not enough bus parking on campus. Your bus driver will have to park at Emory West. Unload behind the chem building along Dickey Drive. There is a bus turn around circle there, so don't worry. Make sure your bus driver has a charged up cell phone to call them back. ALSO I suggest you recommend to your driver that they band together with other drivers, and take one bus (hey, maybe Walker schools little bus) back to campus or back to civilization. Emory West is DEAD.

FOOD: Very bad news. Cox Hall food court is closed this Saturday. This really messes up your "dine and dash" options. These are delivery or fast food: (1) bring a sack lunch, (2) Domino's (3) The Starbucks in Barnes and Noble has some food (4) Chipotle (5) Falafel King. The last 3 are all very close nearly within sight of the Math & Science building. Fast, but sit down is the cafeteria in the DUC (shown on the campus map) and lunch costs $10.25, compared with only $7.80 at Chipotle. And in the "The Village" is Panera Bread, Dave's Subs, Doc Chey's, Rise & Dine (not fast), and next to that is a hamburger joint that I forget the name of (not fast), Everybody's Pizza (not that good, not that fast).

Schedule:
Technical Problem Solving has been moved to Atwood 346.
A couple of base camp rooms have changed.

INFORMATION (bus parking info, updated schedules, maps, sign up sheets) ARE ALL AT
http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~mmccorm/SO/

This might be useful: GOOGLE MAP

See you in 24 hours!
Mike and Daphne

IF you know the Emory area, then you might be accustomed to taking this short cut from N. Decatur Rd down Haygood
Drive to campus. This takes you past Druid Hills High School. HAYGOOD IS CLOSED. You probably ought to watch your GPS, too.

Haygood Drive from Andrews Circle at Druid Hills High School to Clifton Road will be closed the weekends of March 9 and 23 from:

• 7 p.m., Friday, March 9 through 6 a.m., Monday, March 12
• 7 p.m., Friday, March 23 through 5 a.m., Monday March 26

During this road closure a two-story bridge will be lifted into place to connect Emory’s new Health Sciences Research Building to the Emory-Children’s Center.
Emory shuttle service will not be affected. Access to Druid Hills High School, and to the Lowergate and Tower parking decks, will not be affected.

The roster does NOT have to be signed by the principal.

(and to all, don't forget your roster)

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you or your designee get to registration ASAP. Your student's wrist bands are there. Students need to wear these to compete in the 9:00 event. Also, I have put 25 maps in the registration envelopes.

***** Please get maps and wrist bands distributed to students.******

btw, Coaches have name tags (write your names on them!) not wrist bands.

I will try to have a pot of coffee on. :)

The current version -- the unofficial version for 24 hours -- of the scoresheet is attached.

You will notice that places 3-5 are DIFFERENT than what I awarded. I will get to the bottom of this tomorrow.

Yes, Karen Wu found some mistake in the spreadsheet.

I honestly don't know at the end. I was driving people back and forth to WSHCAB.

Sherry knows something about it. I thought you knew the version waiting for you in the department office was different from your latest.

My brain is tired.

That message should have said unofficial for 48 hours. I actually had something non-science olympiad to do today. Apologies to those in limbo, but i will examine every aspect of the scoring tomorrow.

The official scoresheet is attached. It had only two minor error (moving Westminster Augusta and Mill Creek up a few points). The reason I was being extra cautious is that I called out the wrong winning teams for 3rd place, 4th place, and 5th place. I feel awful about this mistake and I deeply regret it. My apologies to those affected. The information was phoned into the closing ceremony incorrectly. And so when I saw the actual spreadsheet, and then sorted it by final score, and discovered I had just announced these incorrectly, I wanted to audit the entire scoresheet before making any official release.

Official results attached as a pdf.

I have posted individual event scoresheets at
http://groups.google.com/group/emoryso

The Thermo spreadsheet is also posted.

Dear Jill,
I explained what happened to the 3 or 4 teams standing there, and I just figured that news _that_bad_ would travel to everyone instantly, employing the "bad news travels fast" theorem. Thanks for giving me this chance to tell everyone.
The event supervisor was recording all data into an Excel spreadsheet. Through some unforeseen and perhaps unforeseeable peculiarity of operating system architecture, when a copy of the file was opened (an accident) it closed the open file (the one with the data) and no backup copy existed. These kids know their Windows. They tried everything. The usual automatic backup files (the auto saves) that Office makes were all blank. Everything was gone. He spend all day Sunday trying to recover the data, too (since the results were not yet official).
New rule going forward: All device event data is recorded on PAPER and then transferred to a spreadsheet. I share his misery. There were many really great entries in that event.

I have a TI 83 silver edition belonging to John Lee and a music stand belonging to Oxford Wang. Can anyone make the connection?
