Hi everyone,
I bought Turbotax deluxe in Costco recently. I activated it but when I started my return, it requires me to pay $42 to file taxes for both me and my spouse.
Last year I bought a Standard version (software) and I didn't have to pay anything else to file for both me and my spouse. But standard version wasn't on the shelves this year, so I bought Deluxe. Nowhere does it say that you can't file together with this version. In fact, on the box, it shows comparison between Online Deluxe version and Standard CD and Deluxe is portrayed as is it has all the features of the Standard CD version + more.
I don't get why I have to pay again for the product that I paid for already
If you have bought TurboTax Online, you need to go to turbotax.ca/activate to use your code before you start your returns. You can see this TurboTax FAQ for step-by-step instructions: In TurboTax Online, how do I use a prepayment code? Please note that you can only use the code once in one account. Using the code again will give an error message.
Thanks for the response but I thought that it's a given. Obviously, I activated turbotax deluxe but it still asks me to pay for the returns.
As you can see, it shows that I have turbotax deluxe with 8 returns included
That is the price for our software if you buy a return at a time. It shows you have the 8 returns, as you go on doing your return, you should not be charged. If you get to a page where it asks you to pay- please send us that screenshot so that we then investigate.
I just bought turbo tax deluxe online edition at Walmart includes returns for 8 people why should I pay again to file a tax return for my wife and I. Does that not count for two returns. I feel like I am being ripped off
Yes, you can complete 8 returns. Once you are in the payment page just before you file, please enter your code in there and follow the steps from there to continue and file your return for free (as you already purchased it).
At this time the program does not have a way to downgrade to a lower TurboTax edition without clearing and starting over. You can remove Deluxe by clearing your return and starting over, as long as you haven't already registered or paid.
I did my taxes the first time and was forced to pay the 80$. I tried my hand with credit karma. Turbo tax still gave me a better refund so I came back, cleared my tax info and at the beginning added the deluxe addition because I didnt qualify for the free edition. Now I only have to pay just the $40. Ive always used the free edition without issues. I dont know what made a difference this year.
To downgrade the version of the software you are using, you must clear and start over. This will reset the software to your original version. Be sure that the forms you need to complete your return are available in the software version you are using.
No. You have to erase and start over. Even though I did this and went through the whole thing again, in the end, it told me I had to get deluxe anyways in order to even file. I was pretty upset. I just went to fileyourtaxes.com and it let me file without paying a single thing. My return was the exact same as TurboTax told me it would be. Filed with TurboTax for the last 4 years, so I'm pretty disappointed with their current service.
I purchased the turbotax delux federal + e-file + state electronic download from bestbuy, the same way I did last year. However this year the software is trying to charge me for state filing, which was advertised as free on the product title I purchased. Anyone else having this issue? I've tried calling in several times but the robot/AI answering service says it doesn't recognize my account information (hasn't changed in years) and when I called in I was hung up on during a coughing fit I had. I'm assuming it was a hang up because my phone number was verified at the beginning of the call for call back, and I was not contacted again. I tried chatting online and have similar issues with the AI system there - always refers me back to the community answered questions and I can't find any answers here. $25 isn't the end of the world, but I don't want to pay twice for a single service... Any help is sincerely appreciated!!!
Thanks for replying! The download I bought from Bestbuy say, "Turbotax Deluxe Federal + e-file + state," which leads me to believe that those fees are included in the price of the software... Does that sound right?
See this TurboTax support FAQ on how to contact Support -
If the problem concerns any type of refund for fees, use the key words billing issues and do Not use the word Refund or you will get a phone number for tax refunds.
I have contacted customer support twice. The first person gave me the instructions for "clear and start over" which didn't work because I've already paid for Deluxe Online but I haven't filed yet. So when I try to clear and start over, it tells me it can't because I've already paid. So I called a second time. After being on the phone and hold for over 30 minutes, they tell me they can't cancel or refund, that I have to fill out a refund request form. So they email me the form. Except it won't LET me fill it out because it's to get a refund for TurboTax Download or CD! I need to cancel TurboTax Online AFTER I've paid, but before I've filed. And I'm getting NO WHERE!
I am having the same issue! Customer service is talking me in circles and keeps referring me to the refund request for the download/CD, which is not my problem because I submitted payment for TurboTax Deluxe Online! Would love some guidance on this issue.
Same, I've called customer service three times to no avail. Upon filing a refund request using the online form, I had received no update on my case via email and had to check said status using the same form, to which it said case closed. Was wondering what this means and how I should proceed.

Same thing, a screen saying to continue to wrap up your return, then no indication that you are about to be charged for "TurboTax Deluxe" and not having to say pay for your return if you owe. Then you are prompted with a payment form you fill it out, then it shows a lovely order summary of the subtotal, taxes, and order total AFTER you put in your info and pay.
It is blatantly unclear that this is about to charge you for a deluxe package rather than you entering in your information for your return. It's very anti-user, and scummy business practice, I'm so glad that instead of paying the mere 6$ I owed that now I had to pay 65$ additional for the Deluxe because of the unclear review and filing flow. Absolute garbage and it seems many others have had the same experience.
Garbage company, hope you go under
