Ask Congress to increase U.S. foreign assistance

Background: Looming food shortages, lingering COVID-19 impacts, escalating conflicts and climate change continue to negatively impact lives around the world.

The current federal fiscal year ends on September 30 and Congress has yet to complete its work on annual funding bills, which includes funding for United States foreign assistance programs. As Congress debates a short-term funding bill (a “continuing resolution”), we can remind legislators not to delay passing a full budget and appropriations package for fiscal year 2023. To address growing global needs, Congress should support robust funding levels for foreign assistance.

Faith reflection: Scripture reminds us never to cease doing good and to work to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable populations. “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” (Hebrews 13: 16)

Action: Ask Congress to increase U.S. foreign assistance
