Friends,

You may be seeing the reports coming out about how guards beat detainees bloody and shot off tear gas last night inside Alligator Alcatraz as they cried out for their freedom. Univision received calls from detainees and families as it was happening.  Here’s the Univision story. Here’s a google translate of the article.

The focus of our vigil this week is why this unaccountable model of detaining people and the policies driving it must be stopped.

Please spread the word — it’s more important than ever to have a strong showing. 

Miriam Haskell from Community Justice Project, one of the organizations that filed suit around the state’s lack of authority to run a detention center like this and the abuses that follow from it, will be one of our speakers.
