Hi Paul

The field trip was held by the Mineralogical Society of Victoria.

Quite a memorable trip it was hot with bad dust storm getting to Broken Hill. On Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th we collected in the Kintore Opencut. On Tuesday 5th we went to Dome Rock and on Wed 6th we collected at the Pinnacles on the dumps from the Kintore and Broken Hill material.

David Green and partner Julie from the UK came on the trip. Unfortunately Julie died recently and David has sold his collection and now  cares for his elderly parents. Not sure if we will see another UK Journal as they were both actively involved in producing it.

It was one of the great field trips that we had.

Regards

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone here went on the November 2002 field trip to
Broken Hill and can remember all the mines we went to?

I know there was also a field trip in 2003 that I did not go

Hi John,

Thanks!  I think part of the reason I didn't remember the name is because it was "Boolcoomatta" which I couldn't spell or pronounce...

It was pretty awesome.

We drove up through that dust storm - it was the stuff of nightmares. At one point, when I couldn't see the road for dust, and I couldn't trust my eyes to pick out colours, it suddenly looked like we were driving through a snow storm with white fluffy snow drifts... and the 40 degrees in the cabin (no air con) was due to the heater...

On the way home, just coming into Wellington, I looked to the west and saw green vineyards being irrigated, in strong contrast to the parched earth all around, and then a willy willy formed, as if to emphasis the point... didn't have a camera...

I remember going to the Day Dream at Silverton, only 1 day at Kintore, and also visiting Mutooroo....  Am I confused? Was there a trip in an earlier year I am forgetting about? I'm pretty certain I only went with the club to Broken Hill once.  I know there was a trip in 2003 that I could not go on...
