In this way, the name 'Republic of Korea' was decided today, but the word 'Minguk', which was attached to the back, as an individual word was pushed to the republic and became a dead language. Because of this, some people say that 'Minguk' is an abbreviation for 'Democratic Republic' on the Internet these days, but 'Minguk' is a Chinese translation of Republic. The Republic of China is a representative example [7][8]
It is also often used as a national team cheering slogan. 'Dae~! The 5 different claps after shouting the slogan 'Korea!' is a unique and important part. With the 2002 World Cup as an opportunity, it became a cheering slogan to which the whole nation reacted naturally.
When the Korean team performed well in the World Cup or other international sports stages, car horns sounded 'beep beep beep beep', and in 2010 the vuvuzela also sounded 'beep beep beep beep'.
1.4. Republic of Korea and Korea[edit]
The abbreviation of the Republic of Korea is set as Daehan (大韓) and Korea (韓國). According to the translation and government decree, the official English is used as Republic of Korea.
When Koreans say Korea, they only refer to modern Korea, but when they say Korea, they refer to two broad categories. The first is to refer to all the countries in Korean history (Gojoseon to modern Korea), and the second is to refer to only modern Korea.
In the names of various social organizations, 'Korea OOOOhoe' and 'Korea OOOOhoe' are used interchangeably in almost equal proportions.
2. What if the name of the country was 'Joseon Republic' or 'Joseon Republic'?[edit]
If South Korea had adopted 'Joseon' as its name like North Korea, the following situation would have occurred.
The name for North Korea in South Korea would have become 'North Korea'. Even though diplomacy has been established with the Chinese character culture, the country continues to use the word 'South Korea'.
The chorus lyrics of the national anthem must have been preserved by Joseon people. In fact, it was often called this during the Japanese colonial period or the US military government.
The Chinese character abbreviation becomes '朝' or 'Seon' instead of '韓(Han)'. Judging from the titles such as the Joseon-Japanese Tongsangjangjeong, it is highly likely that '朝' was used. 'Korean food', 'Korean Wave', etc. are called 'Josik' or 'Seonryu'. However, in the case of breakfast, there is a possibility that different terms were used for distinction because breakfast and Chinese characters are synonymous with breakfast.[9]
The political and diplomatic rhetoric of 'one Joseon', like 'one China', can come out.
As in the case of the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, there will be great difficulties in postal and logistics by confusing the two countries abroad. In fact, this is already happening. In English, it is used as Korea, which has no difference between South Korea and North Korea. It is divided into ROK and DPRK, but just as Koreans confuse or don't know about the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), foreigners are the same. So, it is said that there are not a few cases where mail sent to South Korea by USPS from the United States goes to North Korea.[10]
The confrontation between South Korea and North Korea over the legitimacy of Joseon's national name becomes more intense.
In fact, there is "Cộng hòa Triều Tiên" (Kong Hoa Chieu Tien, Republic of Korea, "Republic of Korea") among the names of the Korean names in Vietnamese.
'Korean Peninsula' and 'Korean people' are now referred to as 'Chosun Peninsula' and 'Chosun people' in East Asian Chinese character culture. In this way, it will be the same as what is actually called in China and Japan now. In China, the concepts called 'Korean people' and 'Joseonjok' in Korea are divided into 'Joseonjok' and 'Chinese Koreanjok', respectively. In other words, if you say Joseonjok in China, you just mean the Korean people.[11] You have to say 'Chinese' Korean-jok to mean Korean-jok as they speak in Korea.
Since the word 'Chosun' was naturally used to refer to the existing country, the name of the country founded by Lee Seong-gye would have been called 'Lee Jo (Lee Family Chosun)' like North Korea.
