I was shocked to get a revised invoice from the City of Emeryville's
Child Development Center, boosting our child care fees by 40%!
I already subsidize low income housing in Emeryville (as a purchaser
of a full-price unit at Andante Emeryville, a subsidy was built into
my purchase price for the 10% of units allocated, in the infinite
wisdom of social engineering, to low and moderate income units), and
pay whopping "full value" real estate taxes (over $5,000 per year).
With what's left over, I can barely afford to put my 3 1/2 year old
toddler into ANY day care, and the City of Emeryville program looked
like, and is, a god-send. As it is, we can only afford 2 days a week,
and it is vital to Alexsi's integration into American culture, since
our household is a mostly Thai-speaking household.
Now I am caught in a classic "middle class squeeze". We are too
"rich" (ha ha, not at all by Bay Area standards) for any subsidy, but
too "poor" (definitely by Bay Area standards) for child care
assistance.
If Alexsi doesn't get exposure to books and learning now, she is going
to suffer in kindergarten!
Please help out, cut and paste this email and send it to the
Emeryville City Council and tell them you want a roll-back to the old
tuition rates!
You can use this email address for the City Council: (replace AT with
the @ sign)

Or this might work if the "filter" doesn't hide the address:
Thanks in advance,
