Recently I took part in a small group experience about sacred space.
During her talk, the facilitator mentioned that God loves death....I
did not take it well. I wasn't sure what she meant. Of course, I
should have asked her afterwards but I didn't. Later, I started
thinking about her comment again.....conveniently as I was reading
Moltmann's "In the End-The Beginning".
My initial thought was that perhaps she was referring to the Old
Testament sacrifices. Since I believe God allowed those sacrifices
(they were more for the people than for God) and I never really
thought God liked the smell of burning flesh....well it didn't work
for me.
"In The End-The Beginning" reminded me that there must be a death
before there can be a resurrection....so in that respect God must love
death! During Lent, I am atttempting to be truthful about who I
am....coming face-to-face with my (our) sin and if I can die to what
is killing me then....perhaps I can begin to receive the grace-filled
beginnings God is already making present to us!
