I just discovered this group as I am a "baby boomer" wanting to
connect to someone who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ and I also
have separated from the only Spanish-Salvadorean mission convenient to
me. My main activities involve being a parent volunteer at an urban
high school where I see the lack of discipline, self esteem and focus
on getting a high school education. Perhaps the main religion the
students have is Catholicism and am not aware of anyone in
participating in the right to register to vote, seek an improvement of
their lot or respect for their peers or the teacher. It's so sad that
even security doesn't speak up on the behavior in the hallways. Am I
living in another planet that even the most simple task of doing the
homework is overwhelming? I remember my peers (mostly Anglo and Asian)
who cried when their final grade was a "B." I try to motivate some who
will llisten and feel powerless to mention religion and told to cut it
out. I even hear about bullying and parents lacking the knowledge of
gang affiliation in their child. I know I have a lot to learn to break
this cycle as this is my burden for these children. My own 1 year
college student asks me why I continue to help. I love what I do to
support these kids when they need something I can give them
( supplies, clothing, snacks, and my old fashion advice and memories
of my own high school days). I also advise them to register to vote!
My sincerest apologies if i'm in the wrong group, but I seem to to
attracted to all your comments. Orallia Moreno (email,
