Hello, all! Our first meetup was an absolute success if you ask me.
Only Jan and Angela showed up, but they were the absolute right people
to be there. These ladies are warm, real, intelligent, deep, honest
people who desire, along with me, to be relieved of surface
conversation and shallow relationship. These women are not about decaf
conversation; they are interested in full-bodied dialogue.
Conversation flowed easily between us, and it was clear that we share
similar views of spiritual community. We also acknowledged that this
meetup group is definitely not for everyone. If you are satisfied with
the spiritual community where you are, you probably don't need us.
This group is for people who want more than they are finding in
traditional church. Although we share a love of the Word, we envision
church to be a community of believers who form around relationship,
not around the sermon or distinctive doctrines. We are hoping that
this meetup will emerge into a spiritual community that fits the
misfits. Right now, we hope to meet once every four Sundays, from 5-7p—
to share the stories of our lives, to ask hard questions without
having to arrive at similar (or any) conclusions, to engage in
meaningful dialogue, to connect in matters of the heart, soul, and
mind. Perhaps as we continue to emerge together, we will meet more
often to do activities together. If this appeals to you, please join
us for our next meetup on Sunday, February 22, 7-9p at Whole Heart
Counseling Services, 212 NE 80th Ave, Portland, OR, 97213. (See:

It was great to meet you, Jan and Angela! Shalom, MaryJane
