Reading new datafile into a project

It used to be the case that once you started a project, it was possible to read in a new data file, without having to edit the project and recompile. As a side light, it was also possible to edit a data file from the dialog box.  But I don’t see how to do that anymore. Am I missing something or are these functionalities no longer available?

Scratch the earlier message. I just read one of the Readmes for the sims and realized I had to double click on the pattern image and got the tensor editor that allowed both editing  and reading and writing new data sets.
