I just had my class try to install Cogent Core today and we ran into two problems, one on Mac and a different one on Windows.

  1. Mac – After installing cogentcore, when my class ran “core setup” in their user directory, they got the message “core not found” or something like that.  However, if they dragged the full path name for core onto the command line and then added setup it ran. (Core was successfully installed in the go/bin folder.) Seems like the pathname is not being set.  I don’t think my students ran the initial “install” command in their user directory, so I’m wondering if that is the problem.  Any other ideas?
  2. Windows – both windows users were able to run the “install” command then “core setup” ran, but it then said “Access denied.” I think it was a permissions problem, as one of the students figured out a solution.

Any one have any suggestions?

For the macOS issue, they need to add /Users/theirUsername/go/bin to their PATH in their zsh or bash profile file; I would expect the Go installer to do that for them, but I guess not (or maybe it does and they just need to restart their terminal first).

For the Windows issue, as the website states, core setup must be run from a shell/prompt/terminal running as administrator (the actual shell/prompt/terminal must be explicitly "Run as administrator"; it is not enough for the user to be an administrator). If that is not clear, I can clarify those instructions.
