Responding to COVID-19
We invite you to download here a new PRO-WASH and Budikadidi learning note on how pivoting water management and governance, Care Groups, mass media, and community outreach and education activities addressed immediate shocks caused by COVID-19 pandemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This brief provides an overview of COVID-19’s specific impacts on rural WASH programming and how rural water suppliers have responded to the pandemic. Adaptations, early results, lessons learned, and challenges are outlined, as well as links to tools (in French) used by the program.

COVID-19 and Integrated Water Resource Management
PRO-WASH Brief: The COVID-19 crisis and its long-term impacts on financial sustainability of the WASH sector in emerging economies: Whilst the shorter-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on WASH infrastructure and functioning are rightly receiving attention, the longer-term impacts on the financial sustainability of WASH infrastructure are equally serious, and may persist long after the immediate threat of the pandemic has receded. By taking into account the longer term financial impacts of the pandemic, threats to WASH infrastructure and to the gains made towards SDG6 can be lowered.
Water Service Provider COVID-19 Financial Stress Testing and Mitigation: This technical brief by WASH-FIN identified that COVID-19 has increased financial stress for Water Service Providers in Kenya mainly due to undertaking new tasks they were not performing prior to the pandemic, while also facing a sharp decline in revenue collection.
Exploring Water Services on the Brink: This analysis, based on the data from the International Benchmarking Network for Water and Sanitation Utilities, uses the experiences of Kenya and Uganda service providers to examine the extent of the revenue shortfalls, the causes, and the ramifications on operations and populations served during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Groundwater, Wells, and Coronavirus: This article reviews (1) viruses in groundwater in general and specific characteristics of the COVID-19 virus as it relates to groundwater, (2) septic systems as a potential source of COVID-19 virus to private wells, and (3) treatment systems for private wells
COVID Financial Impact Assessment Tool for Water and Sanitation Providers User Guide: This simplified financial planning tool can help Water Service Providers to quantify the financial impact on their operations and, make evidence-based justifications for additional funding as a response to the pandemic to maintain and expand water resources during COVID-19.

Communities in Humanitarian Settings:COVID-19 Micro-Trainings: READY's training site includes modules focused on different components of a community-level response—risk communication and community engagement (RCCE), infection prevention and control (IPC) and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); and community health programming (CHP). These training videos provide practical tools and solutions grounded in the experiences of current COVID-19 response actors across the globe.
