Ijust got a MacBook Air from work and I have downloaded fonts and tried dragging them into FontBook. All that happens is a quick window flashes open and then closes and then they are not showing up as installed.

hello, yes I have. I hit "install font" and/or drag the font into FontBook but nothing has worked. This is a work computer but I am listed as "admin" and have successfully downloaded and installed programs such as the Silhouette software.

I have downloaded some fonts and installed them by double-clicking to open them, then clicking "Install font". Word and other Windows programs can see them, but GIMP does not list them in the text tool. Why is this?

TLDR: C:\Windows\Fonts is not a real folder. It's simulates a folder, and using it as the GIMP location will not work. The quickest solution is simply to copy this folder over to another location and use that secondary location, i.e., C:\Windows\Real-Fonts. Doing this, and then the Preferences->Folders->Font folder location, and then restarting, solved the problem for me.

You need to add all font locations. For instance, if you downloaded a font, and it's in the download section, simply installing it through windows will not be sufficient. You also need to add the folder the .tff file is located in. Hence why some people are just moving fonts to gimp\2.0\fonts instead.

Just come across this issue myself. Found a resolve, not sure if this will work for everyone. I was trying to edit a PDF that was using the Calibri font which I didn't have on my macbook. I then went and downloaded it using an external website but I couldn't use in it Acrobat. Acrobat uses fonts from 'Adobe Fonts' since the newest CC update. I found and downlaoded the font on Adobe Fonts and its now working.

Thanks for your input. Sorry, but I don't follow the suggestion. When I try to edit any text in the document, I am unable to select the "Officina Sans ITC Book" option. It appears at the bottom of the drop down list of fonts, but is grey and "frozen out" - and can not be selected.

I am having the same issue. Our college uses Myriad Pro Regular. I could edit this same document last year before my computer was updated this summer. Now I'm having this issue and I don't see any fix on this so far.

Having same issue. Did a recent Creative Cloud update and although Acrobat wasn't in the update, I now cannot type with Open Sans Condensed on the document that I just typed with that font in Acrobat last week. It's not just this font either. Word types with it fine, Fontbook says the font is fine. Acrobat will actually edit the text of the first line of my old document in Open Sans Condensed until I hit a carriage return then it gives me that same error message that the original font is not available and using Geneva in its place. Very odd that font won't work. I downloaded a version of the font and re-installed, even changed the name of it, but to no use. Stuck in font prison and can't text my way out. Send help.

Ever get a fix? I have the same issue. I have a PDF that I have to fill out 3 times (slightly different) every 2 weeks. Most of the info is the same. We just edit dates and times in about 30 different locations. I get, "The origianl font Arial is not available or can't be used in editing. Adobe Acrobat is using the fong Z...@R9366.tmp in its place." Then instead of an actual font I have just squares.

Same problem! Would love a response. I've downloaded and installed the fonts, verified them, and they work fine in word, but if I have to do a last minute word change in a pdf...can't do it. Have to go back to the designer/original to get this simple thing done. Costs time.

It happens equally with any fonts obtained from anywhere. You would think that Adobe would have gone to the trouble of resolving this for their paying customers after so many years of this issue existing.

Same issue as everyone else. I am experienceing the same exact thing as @editbreath. It will allow me to edit one word but the second I move to another box it defualts to Geneva with the error message. Its ridiculous how many people have complained about this same issue and there still hasn't been a solid resolution. HELLO ADOBE?! ANYONE THERE?!

This actually worked for me. I had added Garamond in Adobe fonts, exited out of all applications, with no dice. Then did this resync and now Garamond isn't greyed out on Acrobat, so easy but so so so stupid. Thank you for the guidance.

Q: I am trying to install some fonts onto my PC for a design project I have, but when I drag the fonts into the installation area in the fonts page in my settings, the window closes immediately and the fonts do not install. What's going on here and how do I fix this?

A: One would think Windows would notify you at time of installation that you were installing a font improperly or installing a font that was incompatible with your system. But, that's not always the case, believe it or not.

In other instances, if a font is not installed via the correct installation method, Windows may just crash the whole font panel completely after you drag your font file over and not give you any reason as to why this has happened.

Why this occurs is a mystery but it also doesn't mean you are out of options. As with many Windows tasks, there are multiple ways to install fonts onto your system and typically if one method doesn't work then another means should.

Start by clicking on the start button, then on settings, then on personalization and then on fonts. In the window that appears, drag your font files to the box reading "drag and drop to install" and this should install the fonts for you automatically. This appears to be what you've done above.

If that doesn't work, or the fonts panel continues to crash, then open Windows Explorer by clicking on your computer icon on your desktop, and in the folder tree that appears, navigate to your C: drive, then to the Windows folder, then to the fonts folder. Once there, drag your font files directly into that folder to install.

If not, then contact the download source or font provider directly for more information. In doing so, list the steps you've taken so far in attempting installation and also ask if the font is compatible with your version of Windows or with the programs you are intending to use the fonts with.

I try to copy the .ipa and drag it but it just doesn't appear? When I copy the file, click on the edit button in the menu bar, all the options are greyed out even though I had copied the .ipa? Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

This no longer works in iOS15 and the latest itunes. Although it will copy your app over, on your iphone it starts installing then says "must be installed from app store." If the app is no longer there in the store, it will not install and the app will be useless (Showing with the cloud download button, which won't work).

I installed an iOS app (.ipa file) on my iPad using iTunes for PC (with Windows 10 21H2).The iPad's UDID is listed in Apple Developer Console list of devices. So it is a Developer test ipa for a test device.I've connected the iPad to the PC after iTunes was started and was able to install the ipa by dragging it to iTunes and dropping it on the left lower "On my Device" pane.I started iTunes after the iPad was connected to the PC and was able to install the ipa by dragging it to iTunes and dropping it on the left lower "Devices" pane.

Neither drag-and-drop or right-click paste worked for me.But Ctrl-V worked. Copy the .ipa file (normal Ctrl+C) from File Explorer, go to iTunes on the device's page, Paste with Ctrl+V and the app start to install.

Hello. I have a third-generation iPad with iOS 9.3.5, and I tried the method of copying and pasting the Atari Greatest Hits app to be able to use it with the accessory that was sold, however, the app appears on the home screen, but it is "installed" up to an average of 1/4 of the download, or even 1/2, but it goes up to that point and soon after the app stops installing and soon after disappears from the home screen. Does anyone know what the reason for the conflict might be? I really need this app.

Just create a .fonts folder in your home directory (if it doesn't exist) and unpack/copy them there. It's also a good idea to manually rebuild the font cache, so you can immediately use the fonts everywhere: fc-cache -f -v

In Ubuntu 16.0.4 the Font Viewer application is not working properly so this workaround is a must. I found it much easier to add fonts in bulk by dragging and dropping to the .fonts directory in home. For me, this directory already existed! In home, cntrl-l gives access to the home/user path in the title bar of the window, I added to it typing /.fonts and pressed enter, this gave me access to the .fonts folder. I then simply copied in the fonts I wanted by dragging and dropping from another window and then opened the Terminal. If your unfamiliar with Ubuntu to find the Terminal use the top most button in the bar at left "search your computer". When the window opens click on the applications button at the bottom of the window, it looks like an "A", you can then search your installed applications. Click on "Installed" in the window and scroll down until you see terminal. At the prompt type in the command and press enter. Wait patiently! You'll be good to go when it's completed.By the way, when the Terminal is open it appears in the bar at left and you can lock it there for future use by right clicking and choose an option from the context menu. Handy!
