Families with children 5 and under should use the ADA fare gates (wider gates located on either the left or right). Walk your child in first after tapping your HOLO card, and follow quickly behind. Please request assistance from a station operator if need.

A single tap at the fare gate will allow riders to enter the station to board the next available train. Riders will be charged based on their HOLO card type, and will be given a transfer period for 2.5 hours after the first tap. These transfers can be used to board a bus, or a returning train without being charged, if used within the 2.5 hours.

These are special zones in downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul. If your trip stays within these zones you pay just 50. It's great for riding just a few stops on buses and on METRO Blue and Green lines. Pay on board buses or buy a Downtown Zone ticket at METRO station ticket machines.

1. Make sure you arrive at your station early and be sure to include enough time to purchase a ticket from the ticket vending machine if necessary. You must be on the platform, with proof of fare payment in hand before the train pulls into the station.

2. Go to your nearest TRAX station. You can board or exit TRAX at stations across the Salt Lake Valley. Parking is available at many TRAX stations. Schedules are posted all TRAX platforms.

3. Purchase your ticket. You must purchase your ticket before boarding TRAX. Ticket machines and electronic card readers are available at the station.

4. Locate the correct platform. Look for the electronic signs overhead at each platform to see which side of the platform your train is coming, along with the approximate number of minutes the train will arrive.

5. Stand behind the yellow strip. Look down and observe the yellow strips on the platform next to the tracks. These strips indicate the safe waiting distance from the train. Stay behind the strip until the train comes to a complete stop.

6. Determine if this is the train you want to get on. Signs on the front of TRAX trains indicate whether the train is a Blue, Red or Green Line train as well as the destination.

7. Board the train. UTA has two different types of light rail trains. The Red, Green and S-Line Streetcar lines use a newer-model train, while the Blue line primarily uses an older-model of train.

For the newer-model trains, once the train has stopped, push the green button on the door you would like to enter. Allow those exiting the train to leave before stepping aboard.

The Hudson-Bergen light rail system operates as a "proof-of-payment" fare collection system. This policy requires that you have a time-stamped ticket prior to boarding a light rail car and retain your ticket until you leave the station area at your final destination. Under the proof-of-payment fare collection, tickets will not be collected. Passengers should be prepared to show a time-stamped ticket or a monthly pass to a Fare Enforcement Officer if requested. If you do not have a stamped ticket, you will be subject to fines up to $100.

On weekends and holidays from 7pm Friday (or the day before a holiday) until 6am Monday (or the day after a holiday), two children ages five through 11 may travel free with a passenger paying any valid fare. No additional ticket is required.
