Prof. Peter Brett: Director and Professor of Bioengineering at Brunel Institute for Bioengineering, Brunel University, London, UK is Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers(IMechE), London, Institute of Medical and Biology Engineers, USA, and Royal Society of Medicine, London. He has led surgical robotics research internationally since 1988, established the first international conference series in the field and pioneered sensing, actuation and control techniques for micro-surgical robots with automatic, controlled tissue interaction. His research has been supported by the European Union, Engineering and Physical Sciences Council UK, British Heart Foundation, Industry and the Ministry of Defence, UK. Professor Brett has over 110 publications and is the immediate past Chairman of the Engineering in Medicine and Health Division of the IMechE, London, Honorary Secretary of the Bioengineering Society UK, President and Founder of the Royal Society of Medicine, Technology in Medicine Section, London.
