Networking between biomedical engineering and statistics by Mark Griffin
It is a very exciting time for biomedical engineering here in Queensland, and the IEEE EMBS committee has been delighted to establish a forum here for networking within the biomedical engineering community. Dr Mark Griffin, the current Student Activities Coordinator for EMBS in Queensland, is particularly interested in the role that medical statistics has to play within biomedical engineering.
Mark is just about to complete his fifth university degree, and is a highly trained engineer and statistician. He currently works in the School of Population Health at the University of Queensland, and was recently appointed as the Chair of the Biostatistics Section for the Statistical Society of Australia. He is currently working on a range of projects including an analysis of a 20 year longitudinal study of skin cancer, studies of gastro-intestinal diseases in Mexico and Indonesia, and on developing methods for incorporating imaging into Phase I clinical trials with colleagues in the medical imaging group for Roche in Switzerland.
He has also recently established a consultancy with Taryn Mungur, an HR consultant and training event organiser. Taryn is a guest speaker at the upcoming EMBS Membership Development day on the 31st of July.
Mark is keen to build up a strong interface between biomedical engineering and medical statistics here in Queensland, and enjoys being a pivotal member of the QLD EMBS team.
kind regards,
danny
