I transfer files to my Bernina 340 deco by way of a USB stick; the
format is what *they* call .EXP+ (requires the .INF file as well as
the .EXP file); which used to *sometimes* work, sometimes not. Now I
can't use anything that has gone through Embird to make an .EXP file,
whether a creation in Studio or a conversion in Manager. The error
message reads: Exceeds embroidery area of hoop. Center the design? X
OK
link to photos of design as shown in Studio, my machine's display
screen x2, and the end stitch-out.

My tech says there is nothing wrong with my machine, the problem is in
my software. What can I do to make Embird work for me again?!

Hi Liz,

I have had this problem before and it stemmed from hoop sizing. I
have a commercial machine whose generic format is .exp. Make sure
that you have the right hoop size for the format. My machine, if I
save in .pes, will come back and tell me it is not a .pes file if I
don't have a brother hoop selected.

Not sure whether this is your problem too but it might help to just
check your hoop make / size.

Unfortunately I was not able to view your graphics on photobucket (a
forbidden error 404) not sure why.

Cheers
Christine

hmm. Impossible to save as a Bernina 126x110 hoop, doesn't exist in my software... I use the Janome 126x110 hoop. The problem seems to be in my software (Embird)... if I take that same .EXP file into Bernina's free ARTlink software and simply resave it, my machine will read it. Verrrrrry strrrrrange! Trouble is, the Bernina software puts back in all the jumps/floaties that I just took out and replaced with trim codes! {duh!}

I would *really* like to find software that creates useable files!!

Bernia is proprietary on it's software, machines and parts. What that
means, it just won't work with other software. It doesn't play nice with
others. If you have your Bernina software to convert from other software,
you may be able to convert from just about any software, but if you really
want it to work for Bernina, you may just have to use Bernina software to
digitize. That is one reason I have a Janome and use Embird now. I did use
PED and Embird converted beautifully, but not for Bernina.

I can believe all that for those Bernina machines that use .ART -- but .EXP is a format used by commercial machines and it shouldn't be different between Embird and Bernina's ARTlink software... too weird!

Liz, do you transfer your design by right clicking, input/output operations, Bernina Artista Medium, select Deco 340? I used to just send my designs to my memory stick through explorer. Can't remember which worked best!

Liz, glad I could help! I'm in the fortunate position that Phil Viljoen lives about 4 kilometers from me, and I bought my Deco 340 from them when they still had the Bernina shop! He's been always willing to help and told me to do the transfers like that. Enjoy your embroidering!!!!
