Hi everyone. Complete Newbie and am having an issue I hope someone can help me with.
When I resize a design in Embird Editor, and save as .jef  the design is saved as three files- .jef, .edr and .jef.bak. I know the edr is the color chart and the jef is the stitching one but I don't know what the jef.bak is. When I try to put them onto the flash drive I get a Property Loss warning and they don't show up on the Janome 350e. Is there a trick to this please?
Thanks in anticipation, Jo

These are backup files that Embird is creating.  You really don’t need them and if you want to get rid of them, simply go into Options on the Manager screen, then click on Settings and uncheck “Create backup files”.  That should take care of the issue.

Good luck.

Hi Jo

Greetings from Emu Plains Australia.

The .jef.bak file created by Embird is a backup copy of the last generation of the .jef file prior to your last file save.
Normally it is not used unless you need to restore to the previous version of the design.
If so, move the .jef file to a sandpit, and rename the .jef.bak file as .jef.
You will then have the older version as the active file.

Best regards and happy stitching.

The .bak file is a backup file. It creates one whenever you resave a design in Editor. It comes in handy if you made a change to the original file and accidentally wrote over it. In Windows Explorer, you can delete the .bak extension and get the original file back – that is if you didn’t save it a few more times. It overwrites the .bak file each time you save.

If you don’t need the .bak file you can safely delete it. You can also turn off this option in Manager under the Options menu > Settings – uncheck Create Backup files. I like to keep it turned on and just delete the .bak files every now and then. It has saved me more than once!

Thank you Judy. I have worked out that they don't need to go to the machine! :) I'll keep them for a while until I've stop mucking around with the design. Cheers Jo

Hi Pam,

Where are the folders that you’ve created for the designs? Are they in the same folder as the Embird installation? The C:/Program Files and c:/Program Files (x86) folders are protected by Windows. You need to assure Windows that it is really OK to save those files in there.

If you ARE saving your designs in the Embird32/Files or Embird64/Files folders, you should move them out of there immediately. You are at risk of losing all of your designs whenever you reinstall or update Embird. These folders can be deleted in the process and everything in them is gone. You should save them in My Documents or in a folder of your choosing in the c:/drive. Just not in the Embird folders. I have had more than one group member lose their designs in this manner and I would hate to see anyone else make the same mistake.
