Inserting font into preselected area

Hi
I have some birth announcement templates i would like to be able to change names and birth details quickly and easily without having to resize and reposition details every time.
I have tried to work this out but have been unsuccessful.
Is there a way to preselect an area on the design, of certain size and insert font into that area to match the preselected area perfectly? Therfore no need to resize and reposition.
For example say i want the first name to always be 20cm wide by 5 cm high at the top of the design can i create a selected area and then insert design/font into that exact area?
