Anyone interested in getting up Monadnock some day over Mem Day weekend,
whichever day seems to have the best weather? Advance planning is necessary
for this, as most parking is by reservation now:

https://www.nhstateparks.org/visit/state-parks/monadnock-state-park
which leads to

https://newhampshirestateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/monadnock-hq/r/deDetails.do?contractCode=NH&parkId=271000

for the main HQ parking lot on Poole Road. Availability for May 28 - 30
is looking decently open at the moment. Reservations are per vehicle, and
there are a couple of good places along the way up to meet up and condense
into fewer vehicles, only *if* people feel comfortable with that in light
of Covid case rates.

I went from Old Toll Road last year, in the rain, and turned back just shy
of the top as the microclimate up there had gotten downright hazardous. It
was still a nice hike, I found a couple of really pretty byways. Monadnock
has a lot of foot-friendly textures and great grip on its particluar kind of
granite, and is one my favorite barefoot outings.

Well, I've decided that Sunday is the pick of the weekend, so that's when
I'm going. I've reserved for the Headquarters lot, and will try to get there
around 10 AM but it remains to be seen if I make that. My thought is to go
straight up White Dot or White Cross just for laughs and the steep factor,
and then down one of the more roundabout routes like Red Spot or Spellman.
Spellman would offer the opportunity to try and find where the easier route
to the "cave" takes off.
