I'm going to be leading a series of hikes for the Friends of the Fells, in
an effort to bring a few more "vigorous" activities to their schedule. These
are intended to be a little longer and more rugged / challenging than the
Friends' usual fare, geared toward those looking for a bit more of a workout.
The Friends' schedule may be viewed at the "calendar" page at fells.org,
and the first hike in the series, called "Skyline and more!", is scheduled
for Sunday Sept. 24 at 10am. They set it up for registration on Eventbrite:

This is designed as a 7 - 8 mile ramble through a variety of terrain, and to
visit several fun points of interest along the way. I've chosen a meeting
place at the Flynn ice rink, where there's plenty of free parking.

Of specific interest to barefooters, the terrain underfoot can be rough at
times along these trails, notably the Cross Fells and some other fire roads.
If you feet are in good condition already, it's a nice flex. If you'd like
to try something like this barefoot and aren't sure about it, just bring a
backup pair of something, and there's no shame in using a protective tool!

I also participate in and often lead weekly outings in Harold Parker state
forest, which I've probably mentioned, at 10am every Wednesday. Not everyone
has that timeframe available, of course, but anyone who's interested in more
details should get in touch as the logistics are a little weird.
