Hello folks,
I know that this may seem random but we had briefly talked today
about needing resources with informational texts and such. Then in a
separate conversation, a small group was talking about how the common
core standards were coming in soon. I am sure we all know these will
be happening through the next few years and I wanted to share some
links with you. On the common core website there are a few appendixes,
but there are two that are extremely helpful. These are B and C. Both
of these have clear examples of the type of work our students need to
be able to do. It even goes as far as to give lists of resources for
the common standards per grade level. I am saying they give us poems,
lists of informational texts, and more for each grade level! I almost
find these more helpful than the common core standards themselves!
Then we know exactly what to teach! I hope you find this helpful!

Common Core Standards Site: (http://commoncore.org/)

Common Core Standards Maps: (http://commoncore.org/maps/index.php/
maps/)

These are actually curriculum maps that show how the common core
standards were integrated per subject area! This is so helpful when
planning with the new standards. I hope this is very useful as well!

Yeshua,

Thank you so much for these great resources! I was skimming through
the middle school language arts units, and I am sure I will find great
inspiration from a few of these (particularly as a new teacher).

I couldn't seem to find the B and C appendices you mentioned; could
you give a direct link to them? I haven't fully explored the site
yet, so I may have just overlooked them.

Thanks again for sharing.

Hello Andrea,

Yes and yes! I was really annoyed when I was looking through
last night because I could not find a link to the appendixes! I was
searching the entire website. But of course, I had just done this work
one week prior and I could not find them now. I am going to do some
more searching and see what I can find. I could not figure out how to
do a direct link or attach a file. Once I know how to do that and I
have the appendixes I will attach them. If not and I forget, feel free
to email me and I will send them!

Thank you for finding them Daisy! They are an amazing set of
resources. This could even help us designing our action plans if this
is something folks would like to work with!

Afther hearing from Marty from the DOE about the core standards, it
was great that they were posted here for us. Thanks everyone for
their comments, input, etc.

Man I am just getting comfortable with the GEs in my lesson planning.
Let me ask everyone, since I am not in the classroom yet, do you think
the Common Cores are a move in the right direction?
