Microsoft is contributing templating to jQuery.
What is the overlap?

If there is an overlap, what direction is EJS taking?

It's already been added.

EJS is much more powerful and JMVC's version is about the same size,
so EJS (at least in JMVC) will continue to be maintained.

Let me clarify that.
The EJS that is bundled with JMVC is more powerful, I understand that part, but what do you mean by "it has been added"?

I wanted to confirm that there was no overlap between the version being introduced by Microsoft and the templating offered by JMVC. I didn't want to chose between one or the other.

I'm not sure what you mean.  The MSFT templating is part of jQuery.  It's jQuery tmpl. A search will show it to you.  I'm not sure why you don't want to choose between one and the other. There are lots of choices out there for pretty much everything.
