to EMAN2
Hello.

I am brand new to EMAN. Today I tried to install EMAN 2.12 on my Macbook Pro with OS X El Capitan (10.11.1). I followed the installation directions available on the The EMAN wiki page (http://blake.bcm.edu/emanwiki/EMAN2/Install/BinaryInstall). However, when I test to see if the install worked by typing "e2version.py" in terminal I receive the response that the command is not found. If I enter " which python" into terminal it responds "/usr/bin/python".

I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be related to El Capitan?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Desirée

Did you follow the final instruction:
Restart your terminal program for a fresh shell. EMAN2 should now be installed and function properly.
?

If that isn't it, check

echo $EMAN2DIR
echo $PATH
echo $PYTHONPATH

which should all include references to /Applications/EMAN2.app

Thanks for the quick reply. I did restart the terminal program for a fresh star after I did the install...

That would seem to mean you missed these:

If you use the bash shell, add the following line to your ".profile" file:
test -r /Applications/EMAN2/eman2.bashrc && source /Applications/EMAN2/eman2.bashrc
Similarly, if you use the csh or tcsh shell, add the following line to ".cshrc":
test -r /Applications/EMAN2/eman2.cshrc && source /Applications/EMAN2/eman2.cshrc

or are using a nonstandard shell (zsh, maybe?) and didn't adapt the instructions accordingly...

Bother. I do use the bash shell and I did add that line to my .profile file...

Maybe the best course of action is to try to reinstall...

Maybe your account/Terminal is configured such that you need to use .bashrc instead of .profile ?
