Right now, kids across Australia are trying to learn in classrooms that are too hot – while schools and childcare centres are being hit with rising energy bills they can't afford.
That's why Parents for Climate are leading a national push to put solar panels and batteries on every school and childcare centre – a practical solution that would start making a difference almost immediately.
If we get this done, it would mean:- cooler, safer classrooms during extreme heat
- lower power bills, freeing up funding for students
- reliable energy during outages and peak demand
- and clean, locally generated power in every community
This is about making schools safer today – and setting them up for the future at the same time.
Now, Parents for Climate have started a petition on GetUp's site to make sure they have as many people behind them as possible. They're taking the signatures directly to Parliament on the 1st of April, so we don't have much time.
Your support could make a real difference – so can you add your name to their petition today?Schools and childcare centres are everywhere – in our cities, suburbs, regional towns and remote communities. Outfitting them with solar and batteries would create a nationwide network of clean community energy, right where it's needed most.
And for students, it's an opportunity to see climate solutions in action. When clean energy is part of their everyday environment, it becomes something they understand, see, and grow up with – which is the kind of confidence the fossil fuel lobby can't break.
This is a chance to back something practical, popular and ready to go – and the more of us who sign before this reaches decision-makers, the stronger the case becomes.
