A multi-million dollar proposal just dropped – and the community is already fighting back.
GetUp!
Email,

When Christine's grandson told her that a multi-million dollar plan to build a gaudy, massive Trump Tower on the Gold Coast had just been proposed, she didn't waste a minute.

Christine launched a campaign to stop Trump Tower being built on the Gold Coast – and the response is already building.

For many of us in the GetUp community, this isn't just another development proposal. It represents the importation of Trump's brand of division, extremism and far-right politics into our own backyard.

That's why Christine, who's been a member with GetUp for over 15 years, has taken action – and now she's asking all of us to stand with her.

The proposed tower would need approval from Gold Coast City Council, with a formal development application assessed under the City Plan. Councillors on the Planning and Environment Committee – and potentially the full council – would ultimately vote on whether it proceeds. It could also attract scrutiny from the Queensland state government, particularly around coastal management and infrastructure.

Major projects like this go through public notification and consultation periods, where community submissions are formally considered before any final decision is made. That means public pressure matters right now – before the application moves through committee and councillors cast their votes.

Developments like this aren't just about buildings. They're about what we normalise, what we celebrate, and what kind of country we want to be.

Do we want Australia to be a landing pad for Trump-style politics? Or do we want communities that reflect inclusion, respect and democratic values?

When everyday people speak up together, decision-makers listen.

This petition is exactly what GetUp is about – seeing something wrong, and then doing something about it, together. So I really hope you can stand together with Christine on this one.

In solidarity,
Rob for the GetUp team

P.S. Did you know you can start your own campaign on GetUp's website? If there's an issue in your community or across the country that needs action, you can launch a petition and rally support – just like Christine did. When one of us steps up, thousands can follow.
