Australia Month in Malaysia - April 2009

Greetings from the Malaysian Australian Alumni Council (MAAC). April will be a busy month as we celebrate Australia Month filled with lots of activities.

Australia Month @ KLPAC
 
The Australian High Commission is working closely with the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) to present australia month @ klpac in April 2009. The event is the centrepiece of the High Commission’s cultural program in Malaysia for 2009 and builds on the very successful MY.OZ festival in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia‘s independence in 2007.
 
Members of MABC can log on to the Australian High Commission website www.malaysia.highcommission.gov.au for further details of the month long events.  A brief outline of the events is given below.
 
australia month @ klpac will showcase some of Australia’s and Malaysia’s finest performing artists, including directors, actors, musicians, singers, and dancers. This will be an opportunity for Australian dancers to work with Malaysian choreographers, for Australian directors to work with Malaysian actors and for Malaysian musicians and signers to perform Australian songs. Their collaboration will highlight the benefits of Australians and Malaysian working together.

Illawarra South-East Regional Performing Ensemble
22 April, 7:30pm
The Illawarra South-East Regional Performing Ensemble is a touring group of 47 high school students, aged 13-18 years, from the south coast region of New South Wales, Australia.  The group includes a stage band, vocal ensemble and dance ensemble.  Their tour to Kuala Lumpur will be their first international tour and they will be joined on-stage by musicians and dancers from Mont Kiara International School. They will be performing at Mont Kiara International School (22 Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara) on Wednesday 22 April at 7:30pm.  This will not be a ticketed event and the house doors will be closed in the event of a full house.
 
 
Australian Alumni Hunteroos 2009 (25 April)
The Australian Alumni Hunteroos is back! This year the drive hunt will see participants through an Australian hunt starting in Kuala Lumpur City Centre to Alice Smith Secondary School in Equine Park, Seri Kembangan where a tri-series footy competition between the Malaysian Warriors, Singapore Wombats and Australian Army will be held. Australian Rules Football Competition (25 April)
A tri-series Australian Rules Football competition between the Malaysian Warriors, Singapore Wombats and Australian Army will be held at Equine Park, Seri Kembangan commencing at 1.00pm on Saturday 25 April. In addition to three football games, there will also be an Auskick Australian Rules Football clinic for girls and boys aged 5-14 years old.  The clinic provides a fantastic opportunity for young Malaysian and Australian children to participate in a fun sporting activity.  There will also be a jumping castle to entertain the kids and a BBQ and bar for spectators.
