A.        RESPONSIBILITIES

1.        Ensure the implementation within BNP Paribas Asset Management Malaysia (BNPP AM Malaysia) of local Malaysia laws and regulations, as well as global compliance policies and procedures issued by the BNP Paribas Group and BNP Paribas Asset Management:

-        Provide advice, assistance and training to BNPP AM Malaysia employees, and help to implement local and global compliance procedures.
-        Ensure implementation of “know your client” procedures, to prevent money laundering, financing of terrorism and fight against corruption.
-        Keep abreast of developments in local Malaysia laws and regulations.
-        Ensure that the Islamic fund management business of BNPP AM Malaysia complies with the guidelines, relevant regulations and/or standards of the regulator relating to Islamic Fund Management, including resolutions issued by the Shariah Advisory Council of Malaysia.
-        Help to protect BNPP AM and the BNP Paribas Group from reputation risk.

2.        Monitor compliance of BNPP AM Malaysia:

-        Establish and operate a compliance monitoring programme.
-        Participate in the validation process of new products and activities.
-        Review marketing materials.
-        Monitor the compliance of BNPP AM Malaysia’s Islamic fund management business with relevant local laws and regulations, and assist its Shariah adviser in preparing and certifying that the Islamic fund management business is carried out in accordance with Shariah principles.

3.        Promote staff awareness of compliance:

-        Promote strong internal compliance culture.
-        Provide compliance advice and assistance for all staff and Senior Management.
-        Provide compliance training for staff members.

4.        Report to senior management and to heads of compliance:

-        Attend Board of Director meetings to report to senior management on the state of compliance.
-        Report on a regular basis to heads of compliance (regional and global).

5.        Ensure the relationship with local regulator:

-        Manage the relationship of BNPP AM Malaysia with the local regulator, and oversee the maintenance of its corporate and individual licence registrations.

B.        Experience

-        Ideally 3 to 5 years in Compliance, Legal or Audit gained either in private practice (e.g., consultants, law firms) or in-house (e.g. asset management firm), preferably with an international bias.
-        Particular knowledge of Shariah principles, including of Islamic finance and capital markets. Prior experience of Islamic fund management, including the local regulator’s Islamic Fund Management guidelines and the Shariah Advisory Council would be of particular assistance.
-        Previous experience of reviewing and negotiating legal agreements would be a bonus.

-        English must be fluent; French would be of assistance

Position 2 : Job Specification for Global Sukuk Fund Manager/Analyst

Position Summary
·        A hands on analyst position, reporting to the emerging market’s portfolio manager.
·        The appropriate candidate for this position will be interested in developing a career in fixed income portfolio management.

Specific tasks:

1. Credit analysis to support Islamic Bond Fund:
·        Focus: issuers of Sharia compliant multi-currency securities and structures
·        Relationship with issuing banks and brokers
·        Analysis of project performance and credit standing
·        Recommendation to buy, hold or sell sukuks


2. Portfolio management:
·        Support of portfolio manager
·        Contribution to client reporting
·        Overview of cash management
·        Monitor fund’s guideline compliance and address any exceptions

·        Any other tasks requested by Management which are deemed necessary for the team as a whole to achieve their objectives

Ideal Person Profile

·        Ideally, candidate will have a macro-economic background and first-hand experience with  Malaysia and emerging market economies
·        Languages preferred – particularly Arabic and Malay
·        Candidate will be a strong team player who is self-motivated, industrious and works well under pressure.
·        Numerate - candidates must have a good academic record and be comfortable applying mathematics concepts and statistical analysis to market and economic data
·        Candidate will be computer literate with advanced skills in Word/Excel/Powerpoint
·        Must be a good communicator, oral and written
·        Must be detail orientated, able to set priorities and complete simultaneous projects


Academic Background and Experience

·        Bachelors honours degree or higher
