Start Public Lands Day tomorrow by joining us in the morning. Get outside and meet us at the MN DNR Public Boat Access east of Grand Ely Lodge and the Pioneer Headframe on Shagawa Lake.
We will be there from 9:00 a.m. to noon with tools, trash bags, and the energy to explore the landing, surrounding forest, and lakeshore for a National Public Lands Day volunteer clean up of this heavily used recreation site.
We can get rid of litter, remove buckthorn and other invasive plants, record plant and animal species, and view a colorful end of September landscape. Some stories of the lake and the history of the adjoining Sandy Point can be told.
We can discuss the proposed expansion of the Old Koschak Farm Wildlife Management Area out to Shagawa Lake.
Wear woods/shoreline footwear. Bring gloves, hat, camera, and water. Weather forecast looks sunny and warm.
Today bald eagles and turkey vultures were seen migrating over the lake. We will see what migrants appear tomorrow and maybe put down some bird seed.
We have put away this year's hummingbird feeders and are starting to look towards fall and winter bird presence.
