Pine pollen has been filling the air and coating lake surfaces in places here in Isabella, although I’m not sure if it’s white or red pine pollen.

Heavy pine pollen falls, especially in sheltered spots like this where it can accumulate on the water’s surface, apparently cause noticeable but short-lived changes in water chemistry. The effects are more pronounced in smaller, nutrient-poor lakes that can be found on the Laurentian Shield. Think of it as nature’s fertilizer, delivering dissolved phosphorus, nitrogen, and organic carbon, providing a transient, localized nutrient boost.
