Chipping Sparrow Wet "Hair" Look

This chipping sparrow stopped by for a post-bath meal today, looking quite disheveled.

 

 

Hours later the same thing happened - either the same bird or one of the two or three other chipping sparrows that are taking mealworms for young in the nest. There are no puddles or other standing water anywhere nearby that I know of, so I wonder if they’ve been taking a dip in the lake.
