First, here is a reminder about Tuesday's 4pm meeting of the Ely Climate Group, at the HUB.  It's Not Trash, It's a Resource with Sandy Gunderson

The Ely Climate Group invites you to a discussion about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle our waste. Meet with us on Tuesday Sept 16th at 4pm at the Ely Area Community Hub, 760 Miners Drive. This is by zoom and in person. We will be joined by Sandy Gunderson, who will teach us that trash is a resource. Here is a zoom link:

Topic: Ely Climate Group with Sandy Gunderson

Time: Sep 16, 2025 04:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada)

Sandy is the recently retired household hazardous waste coordinator, recycling coordinator and waste educator for Becker County. They have established an operational system that catches reusable items from the solid waste stream for resale as useful commodities providing a service to the community and keeping waste out of the landfill. Sandy works to "help people understand the impacts our social systems can have on our natural systems" and help businesses and residents "see waste in a different way."

All are welcome.

Dear Friends who care about our Environment, Clean Energy and Climate Action!

I am excited to announce the formation of a new non-profit in Northern Minnesota focused on sustainable, clean energy-based, climate and environmental solutions for our region...

Northern Minnesota New Iron and Clean Energy (NICE)

The Northern MN NICE organization was granted non-profit status in Minnesota on 9/2/25 and was created to advocate for:

● Using Minnesota's clean energy, iron resources and technology to manufacture climate solutions
that benefit communities and the environment.
● Focusing on clean energy opportunities to achieve economic development and environmental
benefits.
● Addressing sulfate pollution of water with cost-effective, nature-based technology.
● Clean energy opportunities beyond green iron and steel.
● Working collaboratively with the environmental community to develop climate and environmental
solutions benefiting northern Minnesota.

To celebrate our new regional clean energy organization, Northern MN NICE, we are joining with another new organization focused on celebrating the importance of clean energy nationally for the first annual:

For more information about SunDay 🌞...

Bill McKibben, who built enormous political will for Climate Action by founding 350.org and Third Act, has now published a book titled "Here Comes the Sun" about the importance of harnessing the sun to meet our climate goals with solar and wind energy:

To build Climate Action based on clean energy he proclaimed a new national day of celebration, "SunDay", that coincides with the Fall Equinox; September 21, 2025.

For those with more curiosity, here is an engaging interview of Bill with Alison Takemura of Canary Media about "Sun Day".

🌞

On this first celebration of SunDay, 9/21/25, in Duluth we want to honor Bill McKibben's work and bring people together to renew friendships, establish new collaborations and develop new Climate Action using clean energy technologies to build a better future for our children.

Would you please share this invitation with your organization's members and ask them to join us to celebrate SunDay and share personal stories related to their Climate Actions and future goals.  If a spokesperson from your organization would like to give a brief, informal overview of your work, this would be great too!

This will be a day of celebration to gather people who are concerned about these issues, just like you, to help make connections and boost community engagement!

Pot Luck  and (Non-alcoholic) BYO Beverage  so please bring your best Minnesota Hot Dish 🍲 or Dessert 🥮 to share!

🙏🌞
