We are now less than 1 month away from the December 23 date for the Ely Christmas Bird Count.
Many of you have participated in previous years and may want to count birds in the same place - at home or elsewhere.  Others may want to count birds at their feeders, on their feeders, in an area they arrange with me or teamed up with others.
I am going to start building the count plan out of your response to those choices.  A few people have already given me an indication.  Some people may still be uncertain about other commitments, but I would appreciate hearing you are ready to commit to this.

Jim Lind, Dave Grosshuesch and possibly families - area southeast on Hwy 1 and side roads

Maggie Roderick - home area and feeders on Sunset Rd.

Fitz Fitzgerald - home area, feeders, Mitchell Lake


As in the past we will have a large area reserved at the Boathouse Restaurant starting at 4:00 p.m. for all who would like to attend and do the initial tallies for the day.  Each year participants have ordered off of the menu and exchanged stories of their counting adventures.  In addition to letting me know if you will be


Others have called or emailed in the results from their count day and as usual we will have an initial and a final number of sightings.  If anyone has birds that are being seen regularly before and after the count (especially in the 3 days before and the 3 days after), we would like to hear from you about them.


I will continue to update our group on the growing list of participants and locations covered.  If anyone knows of regular bird feeding locations that would be valuable to include, please contact us or the residents to see if they will count their birds.


Isn't December/January CBC season going to be fun?

Dear Bill,

Count Consie & me in again.  We shall, as we have other years, walk Stebly Road to Co 88 to Gold Mine Rd and about 1 1/2 miles down Gold Mine Road.
