Hong Kong’s City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) in partnership with BeijingDance / LDTX, on January 8 & 10, 2010, are proud to present a new annual collaboration “Hong Kong: Beijing Dance Platform” at the PLA Theater.
With Hong Kong's reunification with China in 1997, CCDC created the “ China Dance Development Program” and asserted itself as a Hong Kong-based dance company that endeavors to rally the best of Chinese talents to create dance for a contemporary China. The annual “Hong Kong: Beijing Dance Platform” is part of CCDC’s commitment to support, nurture and develop modern dance in China. Each year, CCDC and LDTX will strive to strengthen exchanges between Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese dance artists.
On Friday January 8th, 2010, City Contemporary Dance Company will perform As If To Nothing, choreographed by Sang Jijia, a former CCDC dancer. This work was created in honor of CCDC’s 30th anniversary, and is the first full-length work he has choreographed for CCDC since his return from the apprenticeship with William Forsythe at Forsythe Company in Germany
Born and raised in a Tibetan family in Gansu Province of Northwestern China as a little shepherd, Sang Jijia went through a remarkable journey in his life towards the world dance stage. Over the years he has distinguished himself as a dancer/choreographer of extraordinary talent.
Set to the original music by Dickson Dee, Sang Jijia will take the audience on journey to his world of dance in As If To Nothing. Featuring exquisite designs of movement vocabulary and impeccable taste and style, it examines the passage of time in a stream of memories.
On Sunday January 10th, 2010, BeijingDance / LDTX will present a world premier, Between Lines, by Deputy Artistic Director Li Hanzhong and company instructor and dancer, Ma Bo. For the he past 15 years, this internationally acclaimed choreographic duo has been praised for their uniquely recognizable, strong, sleek, and defiant style. They are known for their dramatic movement and simple sets as seen in their past works “All River Red”, “ The Cold Dagger”, “Undetermined Domain” and others.
This year, Li and Ma have created a new kind of choreography, pushing their own personal boundaries to sculpt pure movement set to a peaceful score and framed by a fantastical stage design. A mountain will erect, a river will flow, a branch will hang-- the stage will be magnificent. The choreographers push away from their typical sharp athletic movement, and instead focus and respond to the dancers humanity. The Beijing audience will be delighted by their latest creation and thrilled by the choreographers’ ability to reinvent and reinvigorate their artistic style.
