It appears that the ELP/California Jam performance at the Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, CA, on April 6, 1974 has been released on CD.  From what I remember this seems to be the audio from the TV special complete with flying piano.  From my first listen the audio is quite flat and sounds more like a bootleg rather than from an actual multi track recorder.

Listening to clips on Allmusic.com - http://www.allmusic.com/album/live-in-california-1974-mw0002440833 - it certainly seems superior to the Then and Now release in the late 90s and the audio from Beyond the Beginning.

The only thing there is to work from is the mono audio signal from the TV show.  Before the concert was released on "Then and Now" they applied some Pro Tools-type plug ins to it like compression, eq and a stereo simulation.  If you A - B the TV show audio and "Then and Now", "Then and Now" is an improvement.

As for the latest release, I too ordered it and expect it anyday.  I was hoping to be surprised with some extra material.  (They ended the show with the whole Rondo/knives/organ surfing).  I also was hoping for a nice package with lots of liner notes and pictures.  I guess not.

ELP orchestra bootleg from Madison Square Garden July 8, 1977. One of Keith Emerson's most memorable shows  he has said. The bootleg is called "The Velvet Couts of Pirates"...not Coats. It is the best recording of the tour with orchestra and at least it is the ENTIRE show!

I was at the ELP MSG shows..all 3 nights..hence the bootleg tapes ; )
I gave a copy to Keith a while back but doubt if he ever even listened to it. Carl was not very happy when I mentioned the recording to him.

Some of the boots had better sound quality than the 'official' releases.  ;-)
ELP seems to have been plagued with poor management and under-documentation, for some mysterious reason.
Styx is another example, although the reason is fairly well-known: their manager forbade concert recordings (both audio and video) throughout their 70s/80s period, and thus, we have very little now.

Does anyone have the OGWT 1979 broadcast in digital format that they could send on? I have a decent VHS copy but was refused transfer at a local store due to copyright. Thanks
