Steven Wilson's surround remasters for Sony/ Razor and Tie of ELP's first two albums are due in September. They were originally to be released in August. As I understand it is to be a 3 disc sets with the original Mix remastered, a new re-imagined release with new songs and finally a 5.1 DVD mix. The online community sought to find out the format of this DVD and discovered that it was not going to be in a 24/96 or greater "hi-res" format. The online groups (I participate in the Quadraphonic\Quad Forums) rightfully questiond in this day and age of high storage capacity it is unconscionable to release anything in less  than  what we call hi-res. Well the releases were held up and Sony creators of SACDs will release the DVD portion of SW releases in DVD-AUDIO. Steven Wilson humbly suggests that Sony did this on their own but I think we will all owe SW a Big round of thanks. I predict he will win (with Neil Wilkes ?)  his first Grammy (?)for these releases. You heard it here first.  I personally have every surround done by SW. He has done no wrong so far. I feel he will only get better IF that is possible. But thanks to Sony/ Razor and Tie. I have a love hate relationship with them over the years for releasing great products that often leave off that "one great  thing" from Video cameras to VCRs to cameras to abandoning \orphaning formats minidiscs, SACDS etc. But they did the right thing in this instance. Kudos to all. But most of all thanks to ELP for great music that has stood the test of time. SW has added ELP to their rightful place other great recent surround releases of rock's pinnacle. DTSOM, Aqualung, Quadrophenia, Layla, Caravan, Moving Pictures as  well as King Crimson and it's latter day inheritor: SW's Storm Corrosion. I will be anxiously awaiting Mr. Wilson's reimagining of Brain Salad Surgery in 5.1.
Thank you fro your kind attention,

FYI - I just received this email:

Many thanks for buying one or both of the 2012 Emerson, Lake & Palmer cd/dvd reissues from Burning Shed.

We've just been informed by Sony, the record label behind the reissues, that the release date has been put back to August 27th.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

This remaster is being done by Steve Wilson of Porcupine Tree. SW remastered several King Crimson albums along with Robert Fripp and they are amazing in the quality and sound.

I have mine pre-ordered and can hardly sleep for thinking about it. I can't wait for Pictures to sound REALLY LIVE. Tarkus is slated to be an August release.

A lot of Blu-ray players, with the right receiver will play these dvds containing the 5.1 engineering.

Here is a link to the page at www.burningshed.com where I ordered mine. No one is making much of a fuss about this. I don't get it...

Where've you been hiding? J There's been a lot of talk, especially on facebook pages, about these new releases for a few months now. http://www.facebook.elp.digest seems to be a good place to read up on them.

The first 2 to be released (“Emerson, Lake & Palmer” and “Tarkus”) are available for pre-order from amazon.co.uk for £9 each with free delivery – a bargain!

Join the Quadraphonicquad.com forum. The 5.1 releases have been being
discussed since December. Steven Wilson has made some posts there along
with the sound guy who is encoding the surround tracks to DVD-Audio
These remasters were actually done last summer and were scheduled for
release in July 2012 but have now been delayed until September because
SONY was talked into the DVD-Audio format instead of the DVD-Video/DTS
    releases.
So nobody has also heard they are supposedly doing most of ELP's back
    catalog this way?

    tar...@gate.net Jul 25 08:50AM -0400

Thanks for the info. When I ran across this I found, somewhere on Steve Wilson's homepage, that he had signed on to do the first 6 ELP releases. I think it was unclear if BSS would be one, since it already had a dvd audio release. I would think it could have been done better IMO...I thought the bonus track of Lucky Man was the best surround track of the whole disc.
