What can I say? I still happily play 3 chord songs in small venues and festivals all round the world after over 30 years of gigs and Greg is still a boring old fart - so niether of us has moved on in that time. 

Btw - didn't gregs beloved Dire Straits get their break in the 'punk' heyday? 

So without punk we wouldn't have 'In the hot seat'

Record Label became greedier when CDs came onto the scene. They were paid back in spades when napster came about. Love them MP3s (not) nothing like taking 3 steps backwards in actual musical quality. MP3s killed DVD-A , SACDs, 24/96 hi rez multichannel music. Wake up! Greg is right on period.
     
    Just so you know I was not stuck in the 67-79 era. I loved some of these artists Yello (switzerland), Jean Michel Jarre (France) Vangelis (Greece), Ozric Tentacles etc.

    I couldn't agree more. The "punk rock" bands of the late '70s gave the music industry a kick up the arse, and although I didn't like a lot of the music, it was a refreshing change from the type of bands, like ELP, that were taking years to write anything new.

    A lot of those "punk" bands are still recording, touring and bringing out new albums… whereas Greg and ELP have brought out how many albums in the past 30 years? When was the last Greg Lake album?

    I too am a lifelong fan of ELP and have followed them for nearly 40 years (since I first bought Brain Salad Surgery for £2.08) but I think Greg needs to keep some of his thoughts to himself and maybe go write and record a new album.

    As one of the lowlife who was given a lease of life by 'punk rock' Gregs recent comments make difficult reading, as do the comments of the other highly intellectual contributor. Are we to agree that anything played on an instrument that is of three or four chords and is alongside straightforward lyrics is of an inferior nature to other forms of music? - oh well there goes most of the worlds folk music, the Beatles and Bob Dylan etc. The views expressed are singularly uninformed in that I recall Greg was locked away at Compass Point recording 'Love Beach' during the 'punk' heyday ( I rest my case). It is one of the joys of popular music that it shifts with the populace. People at the time were looking for immediacy and the marketing boys went with it. A bit like when groups used to use the NME to distribute a flexidisk promoting their new album. Folk wee more impressed with what the Damned or Televison were doing than watching ELP playing with a live tigersitting in front of them.

    Finally those in glass house etc - The all time worst lyric? The dim old Sex Pistols? The moronic Damned? no I would vote for 'Hallowed be thy Name by ELP - "But many a drunk got drunker

    And mostly a thinker, thunker"

    a clunker too....

    Ps I love ELP to bits. I have bought and re-bought every single release and seen them and their solo shows but, that doesn't give them the excuse to talk shite. The Ramones changed the world of music more than ELP ever did.

That's interesting. I didn't know someone else had 'claimed' Facebook's elp.digest name. However, I do want people to know that it's not 'my' page and not affiliated with the original ELP Digest (at elp-digest.com and brain-salad.com). If someone knows who runs that page, please let me know.
