Dagenham, 1968. La fabbrica della Ford è il cuore industriale dell'Essex (Inghilterra) e dà lavoro a 55mila operai. Mentre gli uomini lavorano alle automobili nel nuovo dipartimento, 187 donne cuciono i sedili in pelle nell'ala della fabbrica costruita nel 1920, che cade a pezzi corrosa dalla pioggia. Insieme alle colleghe Sandra, Eileen, Brenda, Monica e Connie, Rita guiderà lo sciopero delle 187 operaie
addette alle macchine per cucire, ponendo le basi per la legge sulla parità di diritti e di salario tra uomo e donna.
