If you use a scooter to help you get around, you already know how wonderful it is for your personal mobility. Being able to transport your scooter by car can be troublesome, however, as most scooters are too heavy for the average person to lift. Fortunately, there are several scooter-lift companies that can make traveling with your scooter a relatively simple task. Installing a scooter lift such as the Bruno VSL-670 requires a careful, deliberate approach to ensure its perfect placement.
Decide where to install your scooter lift. The Bruno VSL-670 has an L-shaped base that must be bolted down to the floor of your vehicle. The area must be large enough to accommodate both lift and scooter. Part of the installation process will require that several holes be drilled in the vehicle floor, so inspect the area carefully to ensure that this will be possible and that no wires or other important components, such as the gas tank, will be compromised by the work. Confirm that there is enough height for the lift to function, and that the boom will be able to swing out and return with your scooter attached.

Set the base of the lift into place inside your vehicle and prepare to mark the location where the bolt holes will be drilled. The lift has two legs that join in a 90-degree angle at the base of the lift. Adjust the length of each leg as necessary to allow a proper fit. Once you are satisfied that the lift is stable and that the holes can be drilled safely, use the felt-tip marker and mark the places where the holes must be drilled. Note that there will be three holes: one at the base of the lift, and one at the ends of each leg. Remove the base. Drill three holes at the marked locations using the electric drill and an appropriate bit. Be certain, before you drill, that the hole can be safely made without damaging anything beneath. Install the lift and, using a socket and the ratchet, insert the bolts through the holes and tighten them.
Connect the wires. Locate the red wire and use the wire-crimping tool and a suitable crimp to attach it to the vehicle's electrical system. Locate the black wire and ground it to the chassis. Once the connections are complete, test the operation of the scooter lift to ensure that it is fully functional.

Please note a serial number is found on your Bruno lift. The serial and model number will be needed for your dealer to file a warranty claim, request parts or service the unit.

General Instructions
- Open the keyswitch cover.
- Flip open switch cover on mast tube.
- Insert the key and turn it to ON position.
- Press and hold the DOWN switch to lower the platform.
- Release the switch when the platform reaches the ground.
- Position the mobility device on the platform.
- Flip open switch cover.
- Press and hold the UP switch to raise the platform/mobility device, and to automatically lower the Hold-Tite mechanism.
- Release the switch when the platform reaches the uppermost position.
- Verify that the Hold-Tite foot contacts the scooter deck and secures the scooter. The scooter should not move. Adjust the Hold-Tite foot, if necessary (a) and (b).
- Open the keyswitch cover.
- Insert the key and turn to the ON position.
- Flip open the switch cover.
- Press and hold the DOWN switch to lower the platform/mobility device, and to automatically lift the Hold-Tite mechanism.
- Release the switch when the platform reaches the ground.
- Drive it off of the platform.
- Press and hold the UP switch to raise the platform and fold it in its raised home position.
- Turn the key to the OFF position.
- Close the keyswitch cover.
Loading
- Raise the powerchair armrests.
- Pull the T-handle out and turn it to the horizontal position. Release.
- Rotate the pivot arm over the powerchair seat (approx. 90 degrees).
- Turn the T-handle back to the vertical position.
Release. It will click into the locked position. - Flip open the switch cover.
- Press and hold the UP switch to raise the platform/mobility device.
NOTE: The lift will make a ratcheting sound when it has reached the upper stop position. - Release the switch when the pivot arm firmly compresses the powerchair seat cushion. (It should be difficult to insert your fingers under the pivot arm at the edge of the cushion. See photo at left.)
- Raise the powerchair armrests.
- Flip open the switch cover.
- Press and hold the DOWN switch to lower the platform/mobility device.
- Pull the T-handle out and turn it to the horizontal position. Release.
- Rotate the pivot arm off the powerchair seat (approx. 90 degrees).
- Turn the T-handle back to the vertical position. Release. It will click into the locked position.
- Drive the powerchair off the platform.
- Press and hold the UP switch to raise the platform and fold it in its home position.
- Turn the key to the OFF position.
- Close the keyswitch cover.
Have an authorized Bruno dealer remove the mobility device seat, mount the docking plate (see left) between the seat and the swivel plate of the mobility device and place the seat assembly back on the mobility device.
Loading
- Open the keyswitch cover.
- Insert the key and turn it to the ON position.
- Make sure an authorized Bruno dealer has installed the docking plate shown earlier in this manual.
- Flip open the switch cover.
- Press and hold the UP switch to raise the platform/mobility device.
- Release the switch when the platform reaches the uppermost position.
- Secure the mobility device to the platform using the ratcheting belts.
- Turn the key to the OFF position.
- Remove the key from the key switch.
- Close the key switch cover.
To return the Swing-Away to its closed and locked position:
- Close the vehicle hatch.
- Swing the ASL-275 in toward the vehicle.
- Push the lever back to the closed position.
All Service and Warranty issues are handled through the Bruno Authorized Dealer that installed the unit.
