Members of the Conservancy are putting the final touches to our 13th running of the THOMAS RIVER Mountain Bike Challenge on the 1st of November.
The routes have been tried and tested not only by ourselves but also by our guest riders at our Saturday morning “Farmtrax” group rides. (If you would like to join us ask Rob Snelling robc...@gmail.com to put you on his list) 30 – 40 km loops with plenty of short cuts for the less fit. We have some fantastic rides in various venues in the area stretching from Thomas River to Tylden nearer Queenstown.
The route we have chosen includes part of the old “Great Northern Road” crossing the river where, in 1801 Thomas Bentley was shot with a poisoned Bushman arrow giving his name to both the river and the area!
CALTEX and our fantastic co-sponsors have pulled out all the stops to ensure we have a fantastic day with lots of entertainment , our free “Mean Cuisine” midday meal for all riders, take-aways all day (thanks to Amatola Spar), 2 free alarm installations from Signal Security, and lots of lucky draw prizes ranging from 3 mountain bikes, to those useful goodies that we always appreciate. Not to mention the 18 sheep donated by Thomas River farmers for the meat prizes and the mid-day meal.
Those who have memories of the mud over the last 2 years can relax, even if it does rain the routes are all on well used farm tracks and remember we banned the motor bike planners!!
If you haven’t entered yet remember it’s only 2 weeks to go (9 days till pre entries close) and while you can enter at the venue the night before. We will accept day entries but they will not be timed.
