Symlinks - Volume Shadow Copy

Hello!

I'm using my own bash script to create a volume shadow copy in windows 2008/2012 server via cygwin, openssh, rsync, windows vssadmin and schtask command. It works flawlessly and is written more or less bullet and idiot proof! :)

The problem is i can't access /proc/sys/Device/HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy48 via ElkarCopy rsync:

The output is:
 succeeded with output: skipping non-regular file 

I guess it's a symlink that rsync won't copy.

How can I fix this?



When this works I'll share my bash script of course... :)

Hi,

Try mapping the VSC to a unit letter, then use the unit letter for the rsync path.

It would be easier without this step. BTW what tool to map VSC to drive letter that will be automounted to /cygdrive. I used some program vss.exe, but cygwin couldn't see it anywhere.

I also tryed to mount

 /proc/sys/Device/HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy to something... no success  :(

On Windows Server 2012 I use the following:

diskshadow /s snapshot_mount.diskshadow

snapshot_mount.diskshadow is a text file with:
---
SET CONTENT PERSISTENT NOWRITERS
add volume c: alias instant_c
create
expose %instant_c% b:
---

Tried this. Can't access that volume via cygdrive.

This would be really easier if i could just copy symlink.

And the volume shadow copy must not be user accessible if you want to mount it to drive letter.

The problem is also windows 2003 which doesn't have diskshadow command availible :(
