HTML programmer wanting to try Elixir

I mainly program in HTML and CSS a little jade and stylus every now and again. I was looking for a good way to get started in ELIXIR? I want to eventually build my own social networking site similar to Facebook for people interested in alien life and paranormal activity. I have a deep interest in exploring alien life personally but why limit the flow of information to one thing. We would be a wikileaks esque site but without the treason and legal woes. I honestly believe the evidence is out their we just have to build a channel for all of the information to flow freely. Aside from my eccentric ideas I was told ELIXIR was a great language to build a social network in since its 10x more powerful than RUBY but just as easy to learn. Where and how should I get started, I've already did the stuff on the website and read a book about the language but I feel like I know everything about the syntax but have no idea how to put a program together.

I learned from https://pragprog.com/book/elixir12/programming-elixir-1-2 and the programming phoenix book (an elixir webframework, find some more resources here: http://www.phoenixframework.org/docs/resources). After the programming phoenix book you could start right away building your site (phoenix channels will interest you, they are covered in the book) If you struggle with a piece of code send it to this group or f.e. https://elixirforum.com/ to get comments. You can find a mass of code on internet to learn from, just google with your questions.
