The below mail asks for reviews from the alumnus and not from in-campus students (btech10 and idd09) who are included for  viewing purpose only.

Dear IIT (BHU) Mechanical Alumnus,

This email is concerned with your precious views and suggestions which can make a real positive difference in the lives of the students of Mechanical Engineering Department of IIT (BHU)

There has been a history of poor grades in Mechanical Engineering Department of IIT (BHU) due to high penalty marking scheme. The teachers and administration consider this as fair by saying that the quality of students is poor but the reality has always been otherwise.

We want you to give your views regarding the grading system that existed during your time in department and its impact on your career.

Please also mention the problems that you are facing (or faced) due to the grading system while trying for higher studies’ examinations  such as GRE, GMAT, CAT and others and also while applying  for promotions.

For e.g.:

1)   1) The topper of our branch at 8.38 CGPA, in comparison with other branch toppers who are at approx. 9.8 CGPA, struggled for foreign internship as he was not even eligible for DAAD Germany scholarship. This is the case with the topper and rest can be imagined about average guys.

2) 2) We are not able to make the most of the job opportunities which are open for all branches due to poor CGPA relative to other branches. For instance, only 8 students in a class of 108 were deemed eligible for the job opportunity at Wipro while most branches had more than 50% eligible candidates.

Please devote some time for elaborating and suggesting measures as this can really help us (your juniors). Your opinions will be presented to higher authorities.

Please post in threaded view and also mention whether you had Relative, Absolute or Mixed Grading along with your CGPA.

Thanks and Regards,

All Students of  Part 4/5,
Mechanical Engineering,
IIT (BHU)
