Dear all,

Please let me know if anyone is interested to attend "Bhagabad Gita" sessions on Friday evening (6/6:30 PM pm onwards). If we have enough numbers we can use the community hall. Hope the committee wouldn't oppose.

I would be happy to arrange lectures.

Food committee may step in for arrangement of "prasadam", or individuals may take turn. I would volunteer to arrange the same for the first few sessions.

Session would basically consist of 30-45 mins of lecture followed by samkirtanam and chanting.

ISKCON certified scholars would take classes. We will need a laptop and projector. I think P.A. system is already there.

Hare Krishna.

Dear all,
It's nice to know that the cultural committee is taking serious interests in making living exciting in Elita.
Before organising religious events, I think we should make sure any religious minority population within Elita should be welcomed and events should be as neutral as possible. I know we all celebrate Holi. Puja. Diwali which is great.

If I lived there, I will be very keen to go to the Gita classes but if there any families in Elita following a different faiths,  cultural committee should see there are some events of their interest as well.

1. Eid is around the corner, it will be great if possible to organise a small get together to greet our Muslim friends in the complex.

2. Similarly Christmas, I am sure we can plan so me gathering.

I was so touched in London last week when I saw some Sikhs on guru parab, serving free food ( delicious chole bhature) to Londoners.
We can possibly organise some charity in future as well. Just thoughts. Also may be people can keep there old clothes and even utensils/ electrical appliances, old laptops. Possibly this can be given away in charity.

Just thoughts, by all means feel free to add.

Dear Hemmay,

London Gurdwaras (specially Eastham) are known to feed hungry and jobless Asians throughout the year- nothing new there.

Thanks for putting forward your secular thoughts. No one has opposed a proposal of Eid celebration, of course it is welcome. Christmas too!

Gita classes are popular in Singapore, UK, USA and Australia amongst the few places I have visited. People from all religions attend the classes and benefit from the great philosophical wisdom it offers. I have never seen an Indian abroad opposing a Gita class. But when comes to practising the same back home, we get fidgety and don the "sickular" garb.

"Those who want to seek the divine will do so in spite of mountains of resistance"- says the Holy Quoran.

I am still waiting for some "positive" response.

Hi Arunangshu,

Thanks for your thoughts. If you see my email, I have never opposed to the Gita  lessons. Just mentioned that we can have so many other socials.

Coming to Gurudwaras, India or UK, I know the Sikhs will always serve everyone. Rich or poor every one wants to eat. It's just like any prasad.

The ISKCON temple does the same in UK. There are more jobless and hungry people in our country, it will be helpful if we plan some charity events and organise open kitchens if possible.

Please everyone in this forum, kindly share your thoughts for our cultural activities.

Hemmay.

Lets not complicate a simple issue by getting too many view points and global perceptions. It's a program that is thought to be organized within EGV for EGVians.
If Egvians are willing to join, they should say so.
Getting the community hall or clubhouse is an admin issue to be discussed with FM.

I always get confused why we, particularly Bengalis, always try to wear the so called "Secular" hat :( Gita is a lesson of life and whoever is interested or willing to get these lessons can join in. We would not or cannot reach 100% concurrence in anything we do, its just not in our culture. My Vote goes in favor of organizing such a noble gathering once a week/month. Whenever I can be there in future will surely try to attend some.

Dear EGVians,
We can have different thoughts and perception. This is not the forum for the same, kindly take these discussion offline.
For the time being lets concentrate on organizing cultural events feasible inside EGV by supporting a group of people (called cultural committee) who has taken the additional responsibility from their busy schedule to improve quality of living at EGV.

Dear Suman,

Thanks for speaking the truth.

My initial email was aimed at the "Cultural committee" and I am yet to receive a response. The role of the committee here is to help us arrange the community hall and the audio-visual system- not "sanction or approve"

The organisation of any such events will surely depend on the number of participants- that I do understand

If I get even five people I can start it from my own living room. We can move to the community hall as and when our numbers grow- depending on our response and individual calling.

Gita is very much a part of Indian culture, I don't see why it should not be a part of the cultural calendar at EGV. The frequency of sessions- weekly/monthly can be decided by us later depending on the response.

I am sure lessons of Gita will improve the "quality of life" at EGV as it has- throughout the world.

I request all EGVians to feel free to get in touch with me via email/text/phone/whatsapp- to start the Krishna revolution.

Regards,

Arunangshu.

Dear All,

Thanks for the suggestions and replies.

As a new committee we have been preparing our calendar of events and budget. We remain open to inputs for organizing any event. The committee will take up an event if there is sufficient interest from residents.

However, anybody is free to organize events of their own and does not have to take permission from the committee. They can directly contact FM if hall is required.

Best..
