If the web address path starts with file:// followed by the path to the file on your local hard drive, a local file is being used. In contrast, if you view one of our examples hosted on GitHub (or an example on some other remote server), the web address will start with http:// or https://, to show that the file has been received via HTTP.

If you only need HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and no server-side language, the easiest way may be to check for extensions in your code editor. As well as automating installation and set-up for your local HTTP server, they also integrate nicely with your code editors. Testing local files in an HTTP server may be one click away.

Note: Older versions of Python (up to version 2.7) provided a similar module named SimpleHTTPServer. If you are using Python 2.x, you can follow this guide by replacing all uses of http.server with SimpleHTTPServer. However, we recommend you use the latest version of Python.

I want to create a simple http server which can serve from specific folder("\public" e.g.) and I'm using .html language. I found on the internet a many bullshit, I don't want to use this .jade thing and I don't want to create a empty web app with express etc. I want express.js http server which can operate like Apache and can serve a static html pages first from a specified folder. Can anybody help me on this, suggest a good article which is explain a step by step, because I'm beginner.

You'll need to make sure Express is installed. You'll probably run npm install express --save in the same directory as the above JavaScript file. Once you're all ready, you'll run node the_name_of_the_file_above.js to start your server.

So im looking for a very simple ldap server setup. All service run on the same vm, no outside access to the ldap server would be necessary. i stumbled upon glauth which sounded great but i really would like to have a way for users to reset their password on their own. Any ideas?

The Exploit Database is a CVE compliant archive of public exploits and corresponding vulnerable software, developed for use by penetration testers and vulnerability researchers. Our aim is to serve the most comprehensive collection of exploits gathered through direct submissions, mailing lists, as well as other public sources, and present them in a freely-available and easy-to-navigate database. The Exploit Database is a repository for exploits and proof-of-concepts rather than advisories, making it a valuable resource for those who need actionable data right away.

Trying to set up a headless LDAP server on a linux virtual machine (vmware). Small scope, but needs to be reliable and easy to use. Strong preference for simplicity over features, command-line over gui.

If you want something with a client, you might want to consider Fedora or Centos directory server, which is called 389 directory server now. It has everything you want, even - iirc - a Windows standalone console client.

I'd say openldap for quick to set up and fairly simple. As for GUI I like GQ, though I usually use the command line.ldapvi is good to. That brings up the results as an ldif in a vi like editor (it might even be vi) and can save edits back to the directory.

Apache Directory Studio provides a simple, built-in server as well as LDAP client. The software is java based and runs on Linux and Windows. The software is maintained by the Apache project and carries the Apache license.

As much as I think that a fully blown Squid Proxy sat on a network working as a Proxy server and giving virus and content filtering is a great bit of technology, I also appreciate that sometimes something simpler, quicker and easier is required.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Thanks b3rs3rk, ich777 for your work on the Apps, and Cpt. Chaz with his video showing how to do this for linuxserver's PLEX app. This easy tutorial wouldn't be possible without your work.

My server is a NUC with a Celeron N5095 processor (4/4), Unraid version 6.11.5, I followed this tutorial and it didn't work, the plex kept doing the transcode without Quicksync. I spent days trying to solve it until I found a solution in another thread. I had to access the terminal and enter 3 commands:

I had a problem when I typed rmmod i915, the terminal replied that it was in use. Even stopping all server processes it still told me that it was in use, I solved this by adding these 3 commands to the /boot/config/go file so that these commands were executed during system startup.

EDIT: Also running an nvidia GPU as well, but before changing my cache drive, I had no issues (Using the HardwareDevicePath field in Preferences.XML to select my iGPU for quicksynk, in my case D129). Now, I can't use the iGPU or the Nvidia, Plex goes straight to CPU/software encoding.

Thanks for sharing this. Just have a quick concern as it appears you are storing the password for your FTP server in the file and then giving everyone read permission allowing people to read the password?

Sometimes as admins, we need to share files across systems quickly. For whatever reason, we need to get a single tar or conf file from one system to another, or maybe copy a group of files between systems. We find that we need to install a package or utility to share the files, or we may need to enable a feature to share the content. Regardless of the situation, we can use Python's SimpleHTTPServer module as a quick web server.

The SimpleHTTPServer module is a Python module that enables a developer to lay the foundation for developing a web server. However, as sysadmins, we can use the module to serve files from a directory.

This tip is not a replacement for actual file-hosting solutions in business environments. The SimpleHTTPServer module is actually a development tool used as a framework tool to lay the foundation for a full-blown web server with all the necessary security features included. However, we can use the module for our purposes to:

Mongoose executable does not depend on any external library or configuration. If it is copied to any directory and executed, it starts to serve that directory on port 8080. If some additional config is required - for example, different listening port or IP-based access control, then a mongoose.conf file with respective options (see example) can be created in the same directory where executable lives. This makes Mongoose perfect for all sorts of demos, quick tests, file sharing, and Web programming.

Wapache is a software that lets you to create desktop applications using web development technology. It combines a modified version of the Apache 2 HTTP server with an embedded Internet Explorer web browser. Requests to the "web server" are handled internally. Data does not travel through the networking layer, ensuring quick response and reliable operation. Wapache also lets you control various browser settings, such as window dimensions and Javascript availability, giving you a consistent runtime environment.

You can either subscribe to all events, or have different handlers fordifferent types of events. Here I have a handler that just receives events withtype panda (like our server was sending in the previous section).

This is pretty weird, and I was really thrown off it by it at first: I opened aconnection, I closed it on the server side, and a couple of seconds later theclient made another request to my streaming endpoint!

You can also set id: and retry: fields in server-sent events. It looks likeif you set ids on the events the server sends then when reconnecting, theclient will send a Last-Event-ID header with the last ID it received. Cool!

sudo apt install apache2 will install the apache2 webserver. By default it provides access to index.html in the /var/www/html folder; replacing this file with whatever you want to host is the easiest way to do things, then you can navigate to on your local machine, or to your machine's IP address on your network and it will serve the pages.

If you are a Google Chrome user, it can be as easy as using the Web Server for Chrome. Simply install it, launch it, click Choose Folder to select the directory that holds your static files.

A quick bit of guidance please. I used to have a Draytek router setup with there own VPN solution. Easy to setup of use.
My requirements are minimal- when I'm working abroad I want to VPN into home so I can bypass regional restrictions on TV.
So need my home Openwrt router to be a VPN server, client on Windows 10/11 laptop.
I have ddns setup so I can get the public IP address for my router.
