Just a home page layout and design. I'll be adding the additional pages and sections in the next few days with a launch in Jan.

Where are all the blinky things?
Shouldn't there be blinky things?
And tons of flash?

Can a website be good if it doesn't make your eyes hurt and wonder how
the %%@$?# you do what you're trying to do or find what you're trying
to find?

Just another perspective.

Ha ha Dean.... yes, we also need a MIDI file to play music with no way for the visitor to 'turn it off'.  tee hee.

Looks good! Sorry for the ignorant question, but Is the blue power button the official ETC logo, or just a placeholder?

The school of hard knocks. The logo looks more like an icon for a mobile app.

As I think more about it, I think the logo should incorporate an Edsel grille.
Or maybe not.

So -- Darren --- and this is a serious question, not a rejoinder:

Got any good alternative ideas?

I think you make an excellent point about conflating generic and versatile.

On the other hand, a "Power me up" button does neatly convey what the
ETC is supposed to be about.
Of course, in the vein of "everybody's a critic", I think it would be
neat if we could make it seem to glow in the fashion of a lighted
button on switched-on device, but that's a rather small nit to pick,
and -- for all I know -- would look stupid.

We already had a meeting about logo design and website. Everyone was invited.  From those who attended, what you see was what decided upon.

Think about what ETC is and what it helps people and businesses to do.

I have to agree -- wait! I already did!

But y'know -- it's like agile software design: Sometimes the big
revelations don't happen til you've got it in your hands.
We all have something (whether we admit or not) that makes us go,
"Wow, that's really cool! I just wish they'd..."
Human nature.
Can't be helped.

We must also remember a couple of things:

1. Nothing is every going to make everybody 100% happy.
2. Perfect is the enemy of good, and maybe even the enemy of great.
At some point you just have to say, "Man, this is pretty good. I like
it."

I actually produced 5 different concepts and this was what was chosen. Also keep in mind, generic=FREE. BP spend 3.5 million dollars for their logo design...I'm just way too expensive for ETC. I produce generic logos for my customers all the time who don't have the budget to spend on the serious research, sketching and custom work that goes into producing quality logo designs. ETC can always update the logo in the future, but I think this is simple, clean and 10x's better than what we previously had. :)

I would be glad to render this as vector art for 1- and 2-color print use, if that's something we need.
Mainly need to know the name of the font, and if its negative tracked or anything.
If you got that covered, great ...

We will be setting up the ETC Academy for Spring classes and will probably need some print material created. Vector might be good for printing, even screen printing too.

Hi guys,
Happy New Year.
I just wanted put in some quick initial feedback about the ETC website content.
I think the power button is definitely a great idea and it would be a big plus to have the power button glow.
I queried google images with "glowing power button" and I saw there were a ton of great ideas.

Also, the image of the front of the tower building on the ETC landing page is also a must have.
When people land on the new webpage, they immediately see that the Elgin Tech Center is associated with the Elgin Tower versus the old webpage where it wasn't immediately clear where or what the Elgin Tech Center was for someone new to the site.
However, the "fogginess" should be avoided (on the right). It should be a crisp clean image.

I also recommend to give the picture or the building itself, a warm tone instead of a monotonish (b&w) image.
I did a quick screen shot of the image and played around with the tone and sharpened the detail a little.
I used Corel Paint Shop Pro.
The Tower has some extraordinary detail that should be brought out and proudly displayed vividly.
It would have been nice to be able to show the American Flag.

The image is attached to this email as a jpg.
(The blue color on the power button was lost/dissappeared while I made the adjustments)

Looks pretty impressive.  You guys are really out there doing a great job.  We do not need to be perfect, just get some accurate and accessible data for customers to view.  After a few iterations, we may end up being a model for others.

Agreed.
Not only is it cool -- but it's a good advertisement for both the ETC and Rusty.
What a lovely idea -- the ETC providing avenues for members to
highlight the kinds of things we can do.

That can't be a bad thing.

@Tom..ETC apparently advertises for the whole Tower. There may be tech businesses that don't fit on our floor, but other floors are available.
