Hmmm.
I've tried Freeswan in the past and it's -- ummm --- a challenge -- but works.

Does OpenVPN have a server?
I use the OpenVPN client and it works very well for me, but can't recall if it has a server.

No progress on Freeswan yet. One possibility is replacing the device
(apparently they've failed to get other people on the VPN as well).

I know several ETC members have more experience on the IT side. I'm
looking with dismay at the range of VPN/Routers and thinking it might
be better to ask someone who is already familiar with the field.
Would anyone be interested in providing a ballpark estimate to help me
    choose a device?

The problem is I'm using Freeswan by way of an embedded router. It
was once SnapGear which made reasonably priced linux based routers,
but the remnants of the company had at least two names before landing
at Mcaffee, which appears to have transitioned to "Enterprise" routers
with "Enterprise" price tags.

Changing technologies is an option if we change hardware.

Justin,
I mentioned this to you but I haven't had the time to jump in. If you're
talking about changing, then I should mention that we use IPCop firewall
for lots of sites and last fall I got OpenVPN working in it. Nice stuff,
and I can give you my client configs if you're interested.
I stopped short of getting bridge mode working, as the client was pretty
satisfied, but I plan to get back to it sooner or later. We can talk about
it tomorrow night or Friday if you like.
