Hello friends,
We have launched an alternative plugin repo for commercial elgg
modules @ http://elggstore.com. Please check it and let us know if you
have any suggestions. Hope it will be useful for all of uswho want to
sell their elgg products.

it looks serious and professional and has a lot of good ideas in it

for my opinion beside open source there could be 2 models for selling plugins

2. the developer offers his product on one^ 'elggstore'
i think you must give the insurance that you don't touch sellers customers-data

The website looks nice. In my opinion, 25% commission for a website
which has no clients yet and which is not officially supported by
Elgg.org is a bit too much though. Power of Apple's app store is a
possibility to reach multiple clients. I can pay for this. I just
don't see this potential in Elggstore.com yet.
I fear that without official support of Elgg.org this will be yet
another elggstore which not many people know about.
In order for me to upload plugins, a site would have to:
- have clear rule for promoting plugins which won't change in time and
which are equal for everyone
- give a warranty administrator won't delete or block my account once
he finds my services competitive to theirs
- if website requires commision, make sure it gives something back.
Clients give most value.

The discussion for a commercial repo for elgg plugins was started from the very beginning of elgg. But so far nobody took an initiative for this. Thats why we launched it.
As you all know, the project will be a success only with a group effort. We are planning to migrate all our plugins and subscribers (with their permission) to elggstore. Its only a startup project and with out team effort it wont be a success. As we all developers come together in a single point, it will attract more buyers and eventually it will increase our chances to sell plugins more. So its better to be united than to be scattered all around.
As Mike said, the most important thing we need to have is a support from the elgg team. We have dropped mails to Cash and Brett regarding this and are waiting for their reply on it.
The elggstore is a startup initiative. Its success depends on all of us. We just took initiative to launch it. We are planing for a site wide election for the post of Co-Admins ( Three administrators are proposed for the site and once we have approximately 250 members a public election will be conducted for selecting the admins and banning the members or deleting their products will be as per the decision of Admins. So there wont be nothing to worry about

in the scope of what the Foundation exists for, so it's likely to not
officially support it. The most probable course of action will be for
any 3rd party plugin repos to buy a service listing on the page. I
should also point out that any thing that violates the domain policies
will not be accepted to be listed on the services page.
We'll discuss this more, and once a decision is reached I'll post to
the Google Group.

elggstore.com" domain and now the same service will be available from
the "http://plugingalaxy.com" site. All the plugins and User accounts
available with http://elggstore.com will be available with http://plugingalaxy.com.

There SHOULD have been a different name. PluginGalaxy is SO SIMILAR to ElgGalaxy.

Yes, I do know Dhrup's dropping ElgGalaxy and even know the new name ... but still ... it sounds similar to ElgGalaxy. Nothing too tight but I believe when there always are options, why go for something with has even the minimum controversy?
