i have been using FS2Crew-Voice products for years with the help of Vistalizator on my german Win7 64. Due to an error i had to reinstall the complete system a few days ago. I donwloaded the appropriate Vistalozator and English MUI Pack fro Win7 64 SP1, i installed fine but after the necessary restart i'm stuck just before the log-in screen. I get a complete black screen, the mouse i visible and can be moved, so the system is not stalled, but it is somewhat stuck and doesn't proceed any further. I was able to solve the problem through the win7 startup-repair tool using a system restore point. however, the languge reverts back to the default as well. I tried it a few times, always with the same result. I assume some recent WIn7 Updates have made Vistalizator incompatible.

I have finally found a fix for the vistalizator problem, first run the program in the compatibility settings set to windows 7 and choose tye language pack you want to use, then when the program shows the message that says save your work and exit the program to apply changes instead of closing the program normally terminate it via task manager then restart manually.

Open the VistaMuiTools folder and select Windows Vista MUI Tools v2.55 x86.exe if you have a 32bit version of Windows Vista and Windows Vista MUI Tools v2.55 x64.exe if you have a 64bit version. The file needs to be run using administrative permissions so make sure you right click on it and select Run as administrator.

Once the message disappears, you will need to wait for a few minutes. Unfortunately you will not see any activity indicator. You just need to wait for a few minutes. From 5 up to 60, depending on your configuration. However, on any mainstream PC it should not take more than 15 minutes for the procedure to finish. Once the process is finished, you will receive a notification message informing you of the installation status.

Unfortunately the tool used for this tutorial is not very stable and the procedure might fail. If you manage to find other ways to apply a new language to Windows Vista, please share it with us. We will be more than happy to test & share your solution with our readers.

Worked a treat with a tweak
I had someone approach me to help change the language on his laptop running Vista Home Premium from Spanish to English; He did however fail to inform me that he had purchased the said laptop in Spain hence his problem. I found your site and followed the instructions for the Vista Home Premium solution and there is only one tweak I can offer. This is that after the MUI has finished compiling the new language pack from the .cab file and you get the message saying installation complete, when you return to the MUI tools software IF THE APPLY BUTTON IS AVAILABLE TO BE PRESSED THEN JUST PRESS IT, DO NOT TRY AND SELECT ANYTHING ELSE. If you do the Apply button will disappear again and become unavailable and you will have to start the process all over again following a reboot.
Hope this helps : )

I tried the MUI tool 2.55 hen
I tried the MUI tool 2.55 hen the program was trying to install or read the .cab file (file that was just generated by the program) it shows and error and it couldnt install it. I tried the Vistalizator 2.10 and use the language pack (shown is this website) and so far works fine. thanks Arthur

How do i undo this?
I

How do i undo this?
I switched my language from french to english and am now regretting it because its screwing up everything.
How do i return to how it was before?

The whole exercise started after the windows 7 upgrade cd given by ACER which is in english is refusing to upgrade the german version of Vista. If I do a clean install then windows is not able to validate and asks for a key even for an oem cd. Now tried after this procedure and it has accepted! The upgrade is ongoing now and hopefully everything will be normal.

Windows 7 Professional does not have language packs, but only Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 7 Enterprise. Does anybody have a workaround to this issue? Is there any software out there that can resolve this issue? Please help.

Download the Language Interface Pack ( LIP) for your Windows architecture: please note that you have different LIPs for Win7 and Win7 SP1 ( took me a while to figure this out when I was to a customer and did not manage to change the language).

Restart the machine and you should be ready to go. Please make sure that you backup the registry before doing any changes, saved me a few times in the passed especially when doing the LIP change operation.

I finally found a solution to my problem. i used a program called vistalizator. This tool allows you to change display language in Windows editions other than (officially supported) Ultimate, like Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium and Business/Professional.

The shortcut System in the Control Panel shows a basic system overview with the calculated Windows Experience Index to measure the capabilities of the hardware. The total index value (the Base score, with a maximum score of 6) equals the lowest value of the five components (the weakest chain), each covering hardware like the processor, memory (RAM), graphics, gaming graphics and the primary hard disk. This score will predict whether the hardware is suitable for the different features within Windows Vista and which hardware replacements would most improve the overall system performance.

The total score of the experience index equals the lowest value of the five components However, it's not clear what the values of the components are exactly based on, which makes it hard to do hardware testing to increase the scores and the overall performance. Fortunattely, a report of the more detailed calculations is saved in XML-files, stored in the folder C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore. The command WINSAT.EXE formal (use the Command Prompt) starts a calculation of the experience index, the command WINSAT.EXE /? shows the other options for this command.

In contrast with earlier Windows versions, it is possible to change the Windows Vista product key by clicking the link Change product key at the bottom of the window View basic information about your computer (Control Panel, System). After a change in product key, Windows Vista requires to be activated again to verify the new key. This option saves time in case of an installed but illegal version of Windows Vista. The option to reset the product key is not always present, especially in OEM-versions.

Would you like to change the user interface language (e.g. when the computer has been bought abroad)? The most expensive consumer version Windows Vista Ultimate, supports multiple languages. At setup, the default language is installed; the additional languages can be added through theMicrosoft Update after the installation has been completed. After the language update has been added, the user interface language can be changed by the control panel item Regional and Language Options, tab Keyboard and Languages, option Choose a display language. The other Windows Vista versions only support one language for the user interface, the free tool Vistalizator (download: www.froggie.sk) can be used to bypass this limitation! This tool uses the original language files, but be aware that this workaround is not supported by Microsoft! Uninstall and hide update KB971033 in case Vistalizator is causing problems with the Microsoft license!

Tab System Protection
When there is any trouble with the Windows operating system, it is nice to know Windows has a build-in system restore to a previously created restore point. The recovery data is stored in the folder System Volume Information (present on each partition) and can be recovered any moment. But, be careful using this feature, before you know you are worse of then before (besides that you won't be the first to lose personal data unexpectedly). In Windows Vista, System Restore has an additional feature to be able to restore single files to a previous version, called shadow copies. Restoring a shadow copy of a file saved by System Restore can be done by right clicking the file in the Windows Explorer, option Properties, tab Previous Versions.

When image software is used to create an image of the Windows partition,System Restore (shadow files included!) can be deactivated, which saves many Gb's of hard disk space. Deactivating System Restore for the Windows partition is done on the tab System Protection, by activating a partition with personal data (D:), restoring shadow copies is still available for these files (be aware that in case of a multiboot system,System Restore will probably result in problems on partitions which are shared between the different operating systems).

Disable System Restore as late as possible, at least until all hardware drivers and software are installed and working properly. If the installation of hardware and/or software creates a problem, it is still possible to restore the computer to a system restore point before the problems occurred. If all hardware and software are installed and essential changes in the system settings have been made, it is time to disable system restore and to create a system image instead. An image of the Windows partition is more reliable and accurate then System Restore, in case of system troubles.

Tab Remote
Within Windows Vista, it is easy to give someone Remote Assistance to take over the control of the computer, using the internet connection. If you are not able to fix a problem yourself, someone can show you using a remote connection while sitting behind his own computer. This person gets control over the computer, so only give people access who you can trust. Remote Desktop makes it possible to give users almost full control over the computer using a remote connection. If Remote Assistance and/or Remote Desktop are not used (in most cases), it is better to disable this feature for security reasons.
